86822, SFMU Fitting size questions
Posted by 95redESIat, Jun-12-05 05:25 AM
Ok, so i bought a used SFMU and it didn't come with the inlet and outlet fittings. I have a 95 so i will be putting the SFMU under the hood and just running rubber lines from the rail and to the hard line. So my question is, is what is the thread size in the SFMU and what kind of fittings should i get to run to 1/4" hose barbs? Thanks guys

You must use -6 AN fittings w/ o-rings into the sfmu. I recommend you get -6 AN barbed fittings which are made for 3/8" line, then use a 3/8" barbed to 1/4" barb (which can be assembled using 2 home depot parts).

Should be much cheaper than getting -6 to -4 reducers then using -4 to barbed connections.

where can you get the -6AN to 3/8" barbed fittings? Then the fitting for the side needs to be cut down right? And for sealing them I use just an o-ring or should i use teflon too? Thanks guys

Ok, here's what I used...

I found the best prices to be from Summit Racing, but these fittings still cost an arm and a leg.

2x -6 male to 3/8" barb = $15.29 (for both)
1x Nitrile -6 O-rings = $9.95

If you want to T off a fuel pressure gauge sender at your sfmu:
1x -6 male to 1/8" NPT to -6 female = $14.69
(You will have to carefully cut off the flared male section off this and put a o-ring on it)

a slightly cheaper, less professional route would be just get a -6 female to -6 female adapater and put it on the pressure gauge T that comes stock on your sfmu.

from Lowes or Home Depot

2x 3/8" female NPT to 3/8" barb
2x 3/8" male to 1/4" barb

Hope this helps...

couldn't I just do the -6AN male to 3/8" barb to a piece of hose then just have a barb tee going to my mechanical fuel pressure gauge? And also, which end of the fitting does the o-ring go on? and for cutting off the flare that is just the part w/o threading right? well sorry for the dumb questions, but the AN fitting thing is all new to me. Thanks guys

Yes, you can certainly T your pressure gauge off somewhere else. It just must be before your sfmu. The o-rings are only for the fittings connecting directly to the sfmu on the sfmu side. The inlet to the sfmu (the side fitting) is the only one you must cut. And correct, just cut off the non threaded part. I used an angle grinder, but a dremel would do good to. Just be extra careful not to mess the threads on your fitting up (leave a little bit extra before the threads to be safe). :thumbsup
