8678, 3 inch or 2.5 exhaust Posted by Erik, Nov-01-01 03:16 AM
Well I'm waiting on parts so I figured I'd kill some time. I have Stage one Star kit. I haven't had the chance to modify and install my Starion. I have kicking around the idea of new exhaust. 3in or 2.5. I did read the SCC article on exhaust(didn't learn really anything new but still a MUST READ) and figure that I might get a tube Borla muffler and resonator. I have a crush bent 2.5 exhaust in there now. I'm gonna save for the Starion first but then I want to have duck's in a row and get going on welding my exhaust. Just want to get a good conversation going here.

I have 2.5" also mandrel bent, that width should be good for up to 300 ponies. no real need for 3" unless you want to have more than that. either way you choose to go, just make sure that is is mandrel bent.

A $140 mandrel bent 2.5" pacestter and muffler of choice is hardly anymore than a custom exh but alot easier. I'm not pressed to move up to a 3" anytime soon knowing DSMs have run 11s with 2.5" exhaust

well that was easy. 2.5 it is! I can weld all sorts of stuff and I got buddies who can get me pipe so I figure that the bends and muffler will be the bulk of cash. Anybody see any probs with using a tube type muffler under the car instead of trying to fit one in behind the cross member in the rear? I was thinking about Dynomax race muffler 21" inches long. I'm not sure about using a resonator yet. 21" is a long ass tube and it should be fairly quiet. Borla makes great stuff too but I might be too poor for one. Any suggestions on cats?
