86615, Accel DFI gen 6
Posted by BumpinTalon, Jun-06-05 07:10 AM
I just bought one from dougie for a smokin deal :D thanks man
but anyway, how good is this system? somebody said it was like a super-tunable AFC and then some, that sounds good to me. It doesn't control spark, oh well no big deal.
It seems like this setup was really popular a few years back but no one mentions it anymore really. what happened with that? it seems like a great setup.
could I dyno in the mid-350whp range with this on 625cc injectors?

I used one for a while. They're hard to get tuned in perfectly (but what isn't) but beyond that, it's a great system that gives you full control over your fuel curve at all load levels.

Here's my tip, though: if you'tre not gonna run 30+psi of boost, get a 2-bar MAP sensor, you'll appreciate the extra resolution in the base fuel map.

fuel adjustments are a given but can be tricky because they seem to skew over time with use. It' was the damndest thing. Also, one thing to note is that there is no way to contol timing with the Gen6. If your plan is to stay below 18psi regularly without a form of timing control, youll still be fine with that set up.

if I were to need ignition control, is there any kind of add-on solution? an MSD box or something? anything other then replacing the Accel with a MSns?

corsagsbo- The reason that the DFI Gen 6 settings change is because when CalMap is used in Windows, is loses small bits of data when communicating with the DFI. The key is to boot directly into DOS (I used DOS 6.2) and run CalMap that way. When I stated doing that I stopped losing data. The settings remained constant. Also, I ran up to 29 PSI with the Accel DFI, RC 720cc injectors, and a Crane box + timing module.

BumpinTalon- I'll send some with maps for 625cc and 720cc injectors with the Accel DFI. Damn, for $100, I about gave it away! I hope you put it to good use. Thanks man!

Thanks dougie, good info. What's weird is that I didn't have that problem with the Gen7 when running it. Since going though the damn fiasco with the whole MSnS/Slick deal, I may be reverting back and will keep that in mind.

According to Accel/DFI, CalMap 7.0+ does not have any issues with Windows because it was created to run in that environment. It's only CalMap 6.0-6.32 that has conflicts with Windows. CalMap 6 uses very old serial port functions that Windows gets in the way of.
