85937, UDP performance = faster spool? Posted by Semperboost, May-12-05 04:30 PM
I've read the reviews and searched and I can't get a warm and fuzzy that the UDP produces actual results. I know of course it makes sense that it should. It'll make the engine rev quicker = spool quicker = boost quicker BUT I've read they really can't tell a difference. I have a bout $150 to spend and was considering that or a SAFC. Whad yall think..is it worth the $160? Thanks

Well first off what is your current setup? We can't tell you unless we know what your working with now!

Well it really should not matter...but I guess my sig didn't show up that time STAR STAGE II SFMU/ 30lbs Alvin

are you having problems with your fuel? If so, buy the SAFC.
If Not, buy the UDP. I def. know you'll enjoy how quick the revs are.

how wouldn't it matter? If I didn't know what you already had, then I might tell you to get something you already have! True or False? Make sense now?

It wouldnt matter because an UDP is an additive power mod. It adds power (actually restores power) to stock engines, mildly modded engines, and fully tuned beast monsters. Its irrelevant the stuff he has now since the udp will only add to it.
Final answer: Yes, get it.

well for the UDP it wouldnt really matter what his mod list is, but he asked if he should get that or a S-afc... the S-afc its nice to know what he has... but i agree, get the UDP, its nice

I know the SAFC will smooth out the power band and add a little HP as well with a little tuning. Thing is I run 30lb injectors and the SFMU and get good idle at 20psi - In conjunction with the bleed valve I can roughly tune the fuel curve. The UDP I know will lessen the parasitic drag some some folks say they don't really feel it "It revs faster, but can't feel any gain" which kinda doesn't make sense in a way. I'm leaning more towards the UDP cuz it's easy to install and It's summertime meaning I'll be using the A/C everyday. If anything maybe I'll gain more miles per gallon. Thanks Alvin

i had a post of when i first installed my UDP... ill still tell you that i dont feel a whole hell of a lot of difference. When im just sitting there in neutral, yes the car revs a little quicker, but i noticed a bigger throttle response increase with the AFX 55mm throttle body.
One thing i did notice afterwards which i bring up because you mentioned it, is you dont see as much of a power decrease with the air conditioner on which is a very nice touch.
If i could go back i still would have gotten it, but i just wasnt as impressed as i thought i was going to be.

umm you think the UDP is easier to install then the s-afc? s-afc you just splice 5 wires, UDP... id rather not go there :wallbash

As far as plug and play...also the AutoHobbyShop here has the Chrysler Harmonic Balancer Puller so I just slap a impact on it (I know bad huh). I've read the tunung on the SAFC and it's a little intimidating plus I don't have a wideband to accurately tune it. Alvin

They're both easy to install. All you need to get an accessory pulley to install nice and smoothly is an oven and a longer bolt to get the old one off. Bake the thing so it expands and it will slide onto the crank like butter.

Don't buy an SAFC unless you have access to a wideband. Otherwise, you won't be able to accurately tune it, which makes it useless.

The UDP is definatly a worthwile upgrade, no matter where you areon the upgrade path. Heh, but when i first realized how much of a bitch it would be to get it off........
Anyways, i also did a write up on a UDP install thats posted on DSMTUNERS. Why there? Well, theres crap for 420A info on there and i felt i should help out the N/T guys there who havent found there way here yet.
