8586, anybody had this before?
Posted by aj, Sep-20-01 07:20 AM
it seems my problems will never end.now i found out that i'm running rich cause(so they say)after i spliced into the 02 wire i(pcm) am not getting any signal from the front 02 sensor.the scan tool detects the rear one though.i changed sensors twice already so it's not the sensor.i can't afford to loose the car anylonger so i gave up and swapped the stock injectors back on.(so much for 15 psi)...anybody have any clues?my digital a/f gauge aint really helping cause it's giving false readings.either the front 02's not reading or the gauge is shot(w/c is unlikely)...appreciate any help...

Try testing it with a multimeter.. If you get voltage from the front O2 sensor in line with what you expect, it's not the sensor.

also, double check the splice. The wire may have broken/come loose at that point.

i used a scan tool vise the multi meter,it showed two readings, one for the front and one for the downstream.front was barely making any voltage, rear was really lean.checked the solder it was fine.the shop gave up on it so i'm on my own.they said they can get a reading when they removed the safc...but it's not even spliced into the 02 wire.could the a/f gauge be doing this?

The rear O2 is going to be lean because it is after the Cat Convertor.

So have you tried disconnecting the A/F gauge and re-running the scan tool. That way you can narrow down the list of probable causes. If you pull the A/F gauge and still can't get any voltage out of the front O2 sensor...then you know your problem. I believe that the ECU only really reads the front O2 sensor to adjust fuel (rear is just for emmisions). I've had a situation where I couldn't get any voltage out of my O2 sensor. I was running way rich and flooded the sensor. It would start working after the sensor "dried" out. Or maybe the sensor is really dead? Try disconnecting the AFC too and see what happens (should be fine now that you have the stock injectors back in).
