I've been searching for a gasket for the downpipe to turbo (star stage II) anyone know where I can get one quick?

the 5 bolt gasket?....RRE or you can buy header gasket material from any speed shop and cut it. keep in mind it has a metal mesh in it and the way i cut was to clamp it to the DP flange and use a rotozip to cut it out. worked nice and cost about 16.00. you have enough gasket material for 4 gaskets maybe 5.

I didn't think you needed a gasket in between the turbo and downpipe.

you always have a gasket between two metal peices to ensure a complete air tight seal, the only turbo/downpipe without a gasket that i've seen is that HRC 3" downpipe with the V-clamp, but other than that, gaskets are a necessity

I used copper sheeting I got from a exhaust shop. Worked as good as I expected. No leaks. I would imagine if the two surfaces were not reasonably flat in relation to each other this would not work as well. If that were the case then a 'crush' style gasket would be better.


FYI You can get those same gaskets from turbonetics directly.

^^^^^^^ What he said. I got a thin sheet of copper and made gaskets for my 5 bolt flange and for the manifold side of my WG and the dump tube back to my exhaust. The copper works excellent I havent gotten a leak yet. I tried that "high temp" exhaust gasket material first. I didnt have the turbo running for than an hour and it turned that stuff into powder.

I'll try turbonetics directly and see what I can get! I'm not the type to rig something just to get by because It'll come back and bite you eventually.

You can get them from volvo dealerships. Theres older cars had t3 turbos on them. thats where I got mine for my old T3.

Not every mating of metal and metal requires a gasket.

Tial doesn't think so:

What the hell do you mean by rigging up something to get by? Obviously if I built my own kit I can afford some gaskets. How in the hell is this way going to come back and bite you in the ass?

relax coolio! No where in that post was I talking about you or your homemade gasket...I just prefer the quick stick on perfect gasket then the choppy less then machine cut gasket...no offense was intended...and by coming back to bite means exhaust leaks and I found a old post of you looking for the same gasket and Avenger told you about http://roadraceengineering.com/flangesandgaskets.htm
