85361, What size fuel line for SFMU?
Posted by HadesOmega, Apr-28-05 08:23 PM
Ok I got this SFMU that I'm trying to install and hunting down fittings is a real pain in the ass, why couldn't they just use the same fitting as the FMU grrr..

anyway I got it so its got 3/8th barbed fitting coming out from it but my fuel lines are 1/4". Would it be ok for me to get some kinda coupler/adapter that'll reduce the size of a small piece of 3/8th fuel hose to a 1/4"?

I might go to the fitting shop I found tommorow and see what else I can get but that's what I'm thinkin for now.

Also I opened up my SFMU to change the direction of the top portion and I tried to pry out the ring with a screwdriver and it made a small hole in the rubber gasket thingie in the SFMU. Is it ok to run it like that? Does the rubber thingie really have a function other than keep dirt out of the SFMU?

oh yeah what kinda guages are you guys using for your SFMUs also, haha sorry for all the questions :P if you know me I just love to create long posts. I'm using one mounted to my fuel rail I see a lot of people have them T'd on the line that goes from the SFMU. Will the rail mounted one work just as well? I have a 95 also O_o

A couple topics down,

I think people are saying it's ok that you clamp a 3/8" hose onto the 1/4" hard line.

I have an electric hi/low memory autometer fuel pressure gauge I put into a fiber glass pod I made along w/ a electric oil pressure guage sitting in place of my center vents.

i think it would be easier to get a reducer barb
like a 3/8 fitting to a 1/4 barb just to be safe and leak free

You've proceeded to ruin the functionality of the SFMU by putting a hole in the rubber diaphram. The rubber diaphram along with the different size disks and rings creates the rising rate ability of the unit. You will have to order a new diaphram from Vortech. Better find some other parts you need to because last I checked they dont take orders under $25.00. You can get the correct fittings you need from them probably.

You should read the manual or at least the PDF before you tear into things like that, lol, cuz now its gonna cost ya.

heh well that's what I get for buying a used unit, it just came with the SFMU and nothing else. fortunately I already had the calibration discs I hope I have the right spring.

So the diaphram thing only affects the rising rate? thats good cuz I don't have the turbo installed right now I'll just have to order one in the future. Hopefully it doesn't affect the static adjustment.

anyone know a place I can get the diaphram thing? Vortechs site doesn't sell just the diaphram O_o

they did for me. Did you call up and ask them? Its not on their website, but I just gave em a call, ordered one up, and ordered up a couple other disk/ring combos to get my total over 25.00

Yeah, I like that idea better than clamping straight to the 1/4". Thanks.
