85115, Star Stage II problem
Posted by Jeff405494, Apr-20-05 07:01 PM
I have a 99' GS OZ and have just installed the Star Stage II turbo kit and thought everything was fine. I hooked up a wideband yesterday and found that the car is idling fine and fuel/air is normal. When I hit boost it is leaning out tremendously. I tried to richen it up with the safc-II and it did nothing. I am wondering if I have the FMU hooked up wrong or what could possibly be the problem. PLEASE help!!!

Mods: Spec Stage III clutch, Star Stage II turbo kit, missing link, Apexi SAFC-II, MSD ignition coil & Wires

what injectors are you running? and how much boost? you may want to lookin to up gradin to a sfmu that will give you more adjustment then the safc will. what are your ratios under boost?

I am running stock injectors at the moment. I was trying to run 7 lbs of boost. Now since it was leaning out I chose the path of least resistance and am not boosting period until its fixed. It was running 14.3 at idle then it would be fine until the turbo spooled and it would shoot instantly lean. I tried to adjust the safcII and at 35% correction I know something is bad wrong. NO way should I have to adjust that much.

I do not believe that you can richen up your car with a super afc. Email darkone, I believe there was a post just a bit ago where he suggested the afc can't be used to richen up our cars.

right, its the same princible as why we need a voltage clamp. your trying to raise the MAP sensor voltage with the s-afc while the fcd is preventing the voltage to go past a certain point. if the s-afc is after the fcd, then you will just be raising the map sensor voltage to the fuel cut areas. if you have the s-afc before the fcd, then the fcd will prevent your corrections from being seen.

first off, get rid of the black box and get a missing link, if the problem persists, then Id say you hooked up the fmu wrong (did you run a vacuum line to it?)

Even still the issue is that the SAFC will not richen, it is primarely used to lean in these cars. The correct question to ask here is what does your fuel pressure guage say? Is the pressure rising with the boost? I assume you bought this kit new, if so it should already have the proper 12:1 ratio. You need to make sure the fuel pressure is there. So did you install the FMU on the return side of the system, and did you hook the feed and return lines to the unit in the correct places? I would check your FMU to be sure it's installed correctly, but also check that missing link, there have been issues with installation and the filter.

kirby is correct, you can't richen with the safc. check your fmu and missing link.
