84841, Got New Hahn DP and 3-in. Cat GReddy EVO2 for GST Posted by blitzeclipse98, Apr-13-05 04:54 AM
TO WHOMEVER HAS THE SAME HARDWARE:
I'm in the process of swapping out a long block and at the same time I'm installing a new 3" exhaust.
I ordered, from Hahn, the 3" Eliminator down pipe and they sent me a 3" Hi-Flow cat (magnaflow?). This is all three bolt.
Then I Have the greddy 3" exhaust for the GS-T which is a two bolt.
Hahn also sent me a Flange (3 bolt -> reducer -> weld) for the mating of the EVO2 and the 3" CAT. This joint is where the CAT is 3" and the EVO2 cat-back section is reduced, and the opposite end is 3" where it attaches the axle-back section.
I brought the Flange and cat-back section to two muffler shops trying to get the flange mated, which is a reducer itself. After talking with the muffler shops that refused to do it cuz it was not on the car, I have questions:
1) Will the 1.5"-thick flange increase the length and cause the whole system to not line up when mounted?
2) Should the weld-side of the flange not perfectly match the contours of the EVO2 bolt-up, and just match up the in I.D. of the piping?
If anyone had any other install issues, please let me know if you could!

You will need to take it to a real exhaust place, it sounds like your taking it to one of those repair only places, this type of work will most likely be done by a shop who offers "custom" exhausts. Also let me understand one thing, You want this to go from a 3" dp-> 3" cat -> 3"exhaust correct? It seems like you are saying your exhaust is only an axle back and you will use the stock piping for most of the way. Is this correct? If your exhaust is a CAT back that is 3" then you don't need to reduce anything. IF you infact have an AXEL back then 1. stop calling it a CAT back. and 2. you will need to reduce to the stock pipe. If you do have an axel back only though this is pointless as it will only flow as much as the smallest section of pipe can flow. Hence it will flow like a stock exhaust. So I would wait and buy a full 3"CAT back or have them replace the middle section with 3" pipe. I hope this all makes sence...

Whoa, I guess I wasn't clear.
No, everything is 3"
3" Hahn DP 3" CAT 3" Greddy exhaust
The joint that mates the greddy to the cat is not 3" or at least doesnt look like the inlets on the rest of the evo exhaust for whatever reason. I was saying that the second joint in the EVO is clearly 3" unlike the inlet at the start of the EVO.
Is that right?
I'll add pictures tonight if I can.

Ok so your saying the greddy has a reducer at the end to go into a stock cat then correct? If this is the case they need to cut off the reduced section of the exhaust and weld in enough pipe to make them fit together. You could add a flex section at this point to take up the length if you wanted but that's up to you. Any exhaust man worth his weight can do this job so they are just being stupid. Take it to a real shop and tell them there is a reducer built into your catback and you want it cut out and re welded to be 3" all the way back. this reduced section is a max of 3-4" long right? All that is is a 4" piece of 3" pipe welded in it's place.

I just called Brad at Hahn.
All the flanges came in one box so I had them confused. The thick Flange was for a different part of the DP.
The 3-bolt flange I want needs to be welded after cutting off a part of the EVO exhaust system like you suggested.
WOW that really makes things difficult when the car doesn't have a motor in to have it lined up on the car at the shop.
