it is an ignition amplifier giving a stronger spark
it is useful in turbo cars so because it lets you gap the plugs closer so the pressure from boost doesnt blow the spark out

the msd also gives you stutter box capability
the tach adapter isnt really necessary unless you want an accurrate tach

i was thinking one thing and typed another
the amplifier allows you to OPEN your plug not close it
that way it doesnt have to be as close so the spark doesnt get blown out

From what ETX said his shorted out from the water (car wash) I'd be afraid of putting it there? I dunno.

i had mine there...never had a problem...but i also have a question...my engine bay is very tight now, and ive heard that you dont need the tach adapter... i have a feeling i had it setup without it and it worked fine...i have one, but i dont want to put it in if its not necessary...thanks

All the ones on summit say they are designed for cars with 2 coil-packs. It is my understanding that we have 1? or does it not matter?

Yes, we only have 1 coil pak ... it's the solid black thing the plug wires hook into on top of your valve cover. As long as it is the DIS-2 you should be in good shape. Summit is real good about returns if you order the wrong thing. I would check with Exile racing too, I'm not sure if they sell ignition systems or not, but I'd check. And my .02 on the install would be to find someplace inside the car ... like the trunk or under a seat.

yea i knew that was the coil pack, i just wasn't sure if it basically functioned the same as two separate ones but ones contained in on plastic peace or what... but cool i might get one soon, i was never sure which one i needed

1 physical unit with two coils. Hence DIS-2.

You don't need a tach adapter. it has nothing to do with a functional tachometer. it is a waste of money unless you absolutely must keep the CEL away, because it's just a big resistor to make the ECU see a coil resistance on the trigger lines.

This is true. I havent run the adaptor for over a year with absolutely no ill effects with my CRANE ignition. it triggers 2 cel's on my car though, but in no way hurts the performance. Crane comes with a bypass weatherpak plug that you can insert to allow you to completely bypass the crane ignition if you need to, so i just do that when i have to get emission tested.

and there is nothing wrong with mounting them in the engine bay. they are water-tight units...car wash wont hurt anything.

i thought that it was better to not mount them in the engine bay because of heat not water?

my thoughts exactly......they are water tight so that is not a worry at all. Heat will kill an msd for the real........but mounted by the stock airbox inlet with air inlets behind it................the sweetness and cool running :thumbsup

What the hell happened with Etx's then? I dont remember now.
