83739, HELP! STAR QUESTION!
Posted by rucr8z2, Mar-15-05 07:37 AM
My star stage II kit came the other day and was short the down pipe and the black box.. Anyways I got a hold of the vender and he said that there was an error in packing the box and that the DP would be air shipped out this wed. but he said that my 96 rs did not need the map bypass(according to whomever he spoke to at star?)But my question is that if my 96 has the late fuel system and would I need the map sensor bypass(aka little black box) or run it without any? I thought only 95's didn't need it? Either way according to him I will not be getting one! Should I just get a missing link?Oh yeah I'm not running a sfmu just the fmu that came with the kit. What should I do?

He's wrong. Only the 95's don't need the black box.

yeah, i have a friend with a 97 Talon that i don't hang out with near enough that never ran one, and didn't seem to fuel cut consistantly. Usually, not at all. No idea why.

*edit*

The map voltage reduction functionality of an SAFC controlling larger injectors will do this. The ECU won't see a full 4.7v until the SAFC compensation reachs some single digit negative correction value.. -4% or -3% or something. I beleive that's what I determined was causing the lack of fuel cut on Jury's car.. because once he started turning up the boost, it would consistantly fuel cut..

So should I go with the missing link just in case because he's not sending the black box?

dino, that makes perfect sense.

but on this guys car, he didnt even have an SAFC...and also had stock injectors. i was like dude you need to take me for a ride, i dont believe this thing wont fuel cut...sure enough, no fuel cut. i was thoroughly confused so i just said mmmmk and nodded my head.

my star kit never came with a map sensor bypass(missing link or FCD) and my 96 was fine never needed it. Most guys on here with 96's actually need them.

Is yours the late fuel system(regulator by filter) or early fuel system?

I'm pretty sure that you can't run a missing link with a SAFC? From personal experience with my 95' on the dyno. One reads MAP, the other manipulates MAP.

Actually, one does both and the other does neither. They work perfectly fine in conjunction, and it's actually easier with a missing link + SAFC than it is with an electrical FCD + SAFC.

true, because the missing link works mechanically by not letting the map see a positive pressure and the FCD works electronically (as does the SAFC) to confuse the map into thinking its not seeing boost. at one point i had an SAFC, FCD and a missing link...my car was tuned like ass, lol

HAHA yea there was a thread saying the same thing on tuners, and i didnt understand why it would work that ways since ones mechanical and one is electrical. well i came on here, found out for sure, and then told them they were wrong lol
