well heres the prob. one: i am running a small turbo setup. subaru turbo and all home made. . it boosts great. right now i have it set at 7.5 PSI on my rs. but.. i recently added a greddy side mount intercooler and it took away one PSI and also greatly reduced accelleration power. i can get the psi back with my boost control but the loss of accel. i cant deal with. so i took it off for now and im just runnin non intercooled and it still runs great but id rather have a i cooler. is this normal to loose some power due to longer pipes and all or no?
2nd: my turbo does not respond well with a filter on it. at the moment i have none since turbo is in ok spot where really no water can get to it and radiator and bumper mostly block anything from flying towards it . but i lose some power and def my BOV sounds weaker when i add the filter to it. just a basic cone type filter using 2" piping. any suggestions on this also ?
other than that car runs extremely fast for the kit i made.

yes, with an IC you will see usualy about a 1psi drop or so... but the acceleration issue is weird, you shouldn't loose any at all with an IC..something dosen't sound right.

sounds like you have a crappy filter...
you really NEED to have a filter on it. there is still plenty of small debris flying around your engine bay when you drive that WILL chew the blades up over time.

What size piping did you use for the IC?

i used 2 " piping for the Ic. i put a filter back on . i dont like it too much but its as good as it gonna get i guess. i got a new filter. its better but still a tad diff.. i guess 7.5 psi non intercooled is ok. the car it came from runs 8 from factory and has no IC either. so i dunno. . for now ill leave it off. id rather a FMIC anyway.

the car it came on had alot stronger bottom end too though.

Just be sure you don't have any boost leaks in your piping or couplers, ect..2" is prob a bit small, but that turbo really doesnt flow much air, so it's prob ok..

Yea...like they've said...the accelleration problem is not right. Adding an intercooler will drop the boost a pound or so, but you can simply re-adjust with your boost controller. I would also strongly recommend running the intercooler with the setup and upgrading to larger piping - 2 and 1/4 with nice bends - then troubleshoot from there. NOT running an intercooler isn't the solution to your problem, your pistons like lower temps :)

Also, defintely run a filter - I wouldn't even risk leaving it off...the turbo really sucks air..like...intensely - misc. debris over time will fuck it up....

You aren't running much boost and the turbo size most likely doesn't demand larger piping - but I would still upgrade if I were you.

Intercooling usually adds power... hehe.
