83450, please help identufy this turbo and how to get a wastegate on it Posted by Dan Zeller, Mar-07-05 01:28 PM
I bought this turbo to do a custom setup on a 420A. It is supposed to be a T-25 with 55trim and .89 a/r. I was told I could get the wastegate from a stock T-25 and put it on this one since this is just a bare turbo. Can someone please confirm that this is indeed a T-25 and tell me how I can get the internal wastegate from say a blown T-25 on here. Thanks

From the pictures it looks like you will need an external WG. You will also need a vband or other type flange welded to the turbine outlet to hook up a down pipe. FYI I have a turbonetics delta gate forsale 85 shipped if you would like to go that rout
 best time so far 14.3 @ 101.1mph(no traction) www.cnnmotorsports.com

Thats what I thought, I see no way of hooking up the internal w/g on this thing. Where could I get a turbine housing that will take an internal wastegate for this? And would that be cheaper and easier than going external?

That is not a t25......no way. Looks liek some other mitsu based turbo with a garrett turbine. Look for a 5/6 digit number on the turbine housing and post it. Hopefully there is one or it hasnt been ground off.
Do the same for the compressor housing.....there may still be a p/n on it.

T-25 with a .89 a/r? never heard of it. but you cannot run an internal gate on that thing. you have to go external

This is a rebuilt Garrett.
It has Garrett on the turbine housing and a tag from the factory saying garrett. When it was factory rebuilt the guy had it opened to .89 a/r The .89 is even stamped in the turbine housing.
#s on the turbine housing: 3850 -5 H3 89 H2 74P Compressor Housing: M10 R A 6317-4
also Tag on turbo: Garrett AKM0129 291094020 FACTORY OVERHAULED

m10?? thats a bad sign, low nickel content. but uhhh, .89A/R t25? ok then, ive never heard of such a thing and is it just me or is there no provision for a downpipe?

the m10 is on the compressor side anyways
I am going with an external wastegate
Here is what I am thinking:
I am going to machine around the turbine housing to clean up the rough casting. I will mount a tubular o2 on there with a v band clamp or something like that.
What do you guys think of that?

I cant find any info on those numbers. I have searched the net and a few book but not a thing. The only other numbers will be on the back sides ofthe turbine and compressor wheel but i am not about to ask you to disassemble a rebuilt unit. Sorry wish i had more info.
FWIW....89 turbine is a little large poss v6 material. might be worth selling and buy another.

what would be bad with the 89 turbine? I am new to this and just looking for answers?

.89 a/r will have more turbo lag then say a .63 which is pretty average to most applications. the 89 you have will take longer to spool up. Now if you were planning on a 2.4 you would probably be better off in the long run to use this turbo. for reference the .63 turbine spools at 2600-2800rpm's on a factory compression 2.0 motor. the 89 would take longer to spool.

when you say spools do you mean reaches full boost or begins to spool ar 2600 or 2800rpm?
would you think that this .89 a/r will hit full boost at about what rpm? I was hoping it'd begin to spool around 3200 or so and then be a max boost by 5000 rpm something like that?

it begins to spool at 2600rpm. full boost by 5000...i doubt it but give it a try if you want.
Blizare: yup they sure do!
