Well, i guess a good flamming session is in order for me for buying a used turbo kit. So, i FINALLY get the car together and fire her up. Whew, it starts right up... then ... SMOKE. EVERYWHERE... and... Oil, seeping through the holes where the downpipe bolts to the turbo, and the bolts on the HOT side of the turbo... UGH!! SO i ask someone who knows turbos well,,, and he said the turbo is pretty much Fucked as far as the seals and what not goes... yeah that totally SUCKS!

SO, what is the best route from here? Just get a whole new turbo and get it bb while im at it ? or just get the parts i need rebuilt to fix it? Because im guessing *and im 99% sure* that my money isnt comming back. Damn this turbo project...

I think you already answered yourself, so go ahead and rebuild the turbo.

keep in mind, you cant "rebuild" a turbo on your own. you need to have a shop do that that rebuilds them. there is some very intricate balancing that needs to be done. if you just buy a kit and try it yourself, you won't be any happier than you are now.

Tim is correct, you must have parts balanced. Figure about 100 for the parts to rebuild(t3/t4), and another 50-100 for balance job. Parts that NEED to be balanced together are the turbine wheel/shaft, compressor wheel, thrust collar, thrust spacer and the nut. This is a direct quote from they company who is going to do the balance job for my t3/t4 project...

Yeah, if your just replacing the seals it doesn't matter. You just have to pay attention and mark the moving parts so that you can reassemble it in the same way. It's already balanced. If you need to replace the turbine or compressor wheel then yes, it will need to be balanced.

ETX is right. The wheels come balanced from the factory. Index them, and put them back in the same location and you'll be fine. If you're changing wheels and stuff, then that's a different story. Just put some new seals in there and you'll be all set. (Of course, for 50 bucks, maybe balancing it is a realistic insurance option)
