83044, EGT gauge installed Posted by baxsom, Feb-22-05 12:38 PM
i finally got my dakota digital EGT gauge installed and suprisingly it went in fairyly easily
it came with a weld in bung for exhaust pipes i opted to just the screw in fitting straight into the hahn manifold
1/4"NPT threads so it was a large hole 7/16th to be exact and then the probe screwed down into that fitting
i tapped it between the 3rd and 4th runner i wanted to tap straight into the 4th but i was worried about fitment issued with the IC piping because the elbow coming out of the turbine was in the way
btw tap magic on a steady drip onto the tap works wonders
to seal the threads i used a product called Inferno it is marketed as a manifold weld
it is supposedly rated to 2000 degrees
i still need to tie up the sender wires under the dash so i really cant go out and drive it yet but i am getting about 850F at idle

thts normal. at operating temp
EDIT: negative. we put the egt in the dumppipe on the silvia, yours in is the manifold. i don't know what the difference would be between the motors but I know there is a diff between the manifold and after the turbo locations.

If it's in the dumppipe you'd only be getting readings when your wastegate would open up. You mean downpipe?

i was really happy on the track last night with the egt at 11 psi crossing the trap my egt was 1450
probably too low because i am running insanely rich but at least i am not melting anything (i hope)

850 at idle after warmup is dead on.
