8304, HRC and Star dyno in the latest Turbo Mag.. Posted by Jeff_99gs, Sep-12-01 12:47 PM
The October edition of Turbo mag did dynos of 24 leading turbo kits for non-turbo cars. Of that list, HRC and Star kits were reviewed.
Here is the outcome: HRC dynoed at 225.7hp in stage 2 trim. (it says 6psi) Star dynoed at 176.8hp at 5psi in stage 2 trim.
Both are hp at the wheels. The reason why they didn't crank the boost on the Star kit I am assuming was because they were told not to go over the recommended boost level.
We also get Star's address and phone number with the article. wow.

LAST EDITED ON 12-Sep-01 AT 07:07 PM (PST)That was the same figure they had twice in Turbo for the star at 5psi and stage 1. Star stage 2 has been Dyno'd @ 225hp @10psi. How much money you wanna bet they had both psi and stages confused? Before you go help spread their wrong info think about a few things:
Star bigger turbo Star bigger downpipe Star external wastegate dumped into open air
There wrong plain and simple and the several 14 sec stage 1 Star times prove they make at least as much power in stage 1 and 2 trim.

I wasn't trying to mislead anyone Stan, just reporting what the magazine said in case people hadn't read it yet. No need to get defensive :)

I know you were just passing the info. I have to be defensive cause some idiot (probably thousands) will read this and the mag and assume its true. I cant do sh*t about the mag but they wont come here and get misinfo if I can help it. Too many people already think Hahn's kit is perfect and Star is full of flaws and 75% dont even know what they are complaining about or compaining about things they shouldn't (where else do you see anyone calling a Deltagate and open dump and error. most people would kill to have that. If they didn't think people would want it I'm sure they could have saved you $200 and offered a kit with an exhaust disturbing, power robbing internal wastegate, even if it does have a seperation wall from the turbine gases. Cause Hahn tells you his internal wastegate is better you believe it and that info is just plane wrong too in terms of hp). I could go on and on about how many turbo rebuilders wont even rebuild Mitsu turbo's because due to their internal struture fail rates are so predictable and common under heavy loads its not worth rebuilding (www.racetep.com for those who think I make stuff up). I dont post every two weeks Garrett turbos are structurally superior. Funny I read the neon board and the way you guys complain about the Star system and alleged fuel system problems they complain about the Hahn fuel system. They are even more adement than you (those who complain) about the Hahn system sucking. I have to go over there and constantly defend the Hahn kit. I'll stop being defensive when I feel I get my point across and the baseless bashing stops. Rusty intercooler pipes are something to complain about, 90% of what everybody complains about needs to give it a rest or spend more $$ for the "perfect" system.
Honda owners pay $2800+ and up for stage 1 and $3500+ for stage 2 and except for a few brands (fasttrax and greddy ect have larger and/or additional injectors) they get no better quality. If they aren't constantly whining we dont have any business either!

It all boils down to how much boost you are running and the temps of the air at the throttle body. If those numbers match up, it really won't matter what turbo kit sent it there, the performance will be the same. The only thing I can think of that would cause those kinds of different numbers is that either the star was not intercooled or the intercooler had a heating device installed in it lol.

Boost is boost...your engine don't know a damn. Just be happy with your little turbo kit and quit the BS.
