82578, now whats wrong
Posted by hunntyr, Feb-12-05 10:43 AM
I have a 95 gs with a stage 2 HRC set up with an Vortech SFMU, walbro 255 hp intank and now 330cc injectors. I just finished my injector install and tried to fire her up and she kinda hesitated at first but then she turned over. Fuel Gauge is reading right around 30 psi when I turned her on however, the idle went to about 1500 - 2000 rpm's and got a CEL 5 minutes later. Now I know I need to adjust the FP down for bigger injectors and I am now running in my SFMU the 2.72 disk/ring and short spring. When I tried to adjust the pressure, nothing moved. I turned the car off and the FP just dropped to 0 fast as well. There are no kinks in the return line so no restriction there. I am going nuts here trying to figure out how to get my idle back to 800- 1000 rpm's and find out what is going on with my fuel pressure. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Man I really hope you get this figured out soon! I know what its like not knowing how to fix a problem or even know where to start after checking everything related to the issue!

Good luck man!

Try the largest disk with the dark spring. Im using that now and seems to work great(315's and 12 psi). I can drop my fuel pressure WAY low if I need. I'm assuming your using the bleed valve as well.

I will try that however that is the same setup I used for my stock injectors. Everything that I have read so far points me to the 2.72 disk/ring combo with the smaller spring but it never hurts to try. Yes the bleed valve is there, haven't really messed with it though. Now when you adjusted your bleed valve, at what point did everything stabalize??

Yeah, you need to start adjusting your bleed valve. That should allow for some fine adjustments. Just turn it a little bit at a time at watch what happens. Is your FP gauge inside or outside the car?

Well, I will try in the morning along with switching the disks around. The FP gauge is outside the car attached to the test port on the fuel rail.

ya, id try the 3.63 disk with the silver spring. see if that allows you to adjust fp better.

Well diaphram is ripped. So off to get a new one...any one know where to get one locally instead of from vortech.

Did you fix the idle? Sounds like a vacume leak, and it could be anywhere since you had the intake mani off to install the injectors. You didn't pinch the o-rings on the injectors right?

LOL I actually took the injectors/fuel rail out the hard way....Not even taking the mani off so that cant be it. I havent fixed the idle yet since I have a torn SFMU Diaphragm. Have to wait til tomorrow to get one cause every place around me that may have it is closed. I couldn't tell if the o rings were pinched but I can double check.

OK....we are making some progress. I got the diaphragm and that helped a little. I switched from the 2.72 disk/ring combo back to the 3.62 with the silver spring and it moved down only 2 psi and FP only rose about 5psi when I boosted. I then switched to the dark spring with the same disk and it allowed me to lower FP from 55psi down to 45 and my idle came down a little. Instead of bouncing between 1500-2000 rpm's, its steady now at about 1200-1300. Still not where I want to be but at least there is some change. I know with 330's I want to be between 35-37psi and I think if I can solve the SFMU disk/ring/spring combo I should be ok. Also, this may sound a little silly but I thought I would ask anyway. My fuel filter has not been changed for a couple of years, would this cause some of the problems I am having??

change your filter. Also, try lowering the fp to around 20-25psi @ full vacuum idle for those injectors. I'm running 20-24psi for my 310's and she idles great. 330's will need about the same.

Thanks for the input. I got my idle down to around 1000 RPM's so I am a happy camper, my FP I got down to 35 psi. I switched back to the 3.62 disk and dark spring and was able to accomplish that However, when I boost my FP now only rises by 5 psi. I am still seeing 6psi for boost and she is still pulling well but with a lag now. So I switched to the silver spring with the same disk and FP went up to between 45-50 (just like stock FP) and my boost FP now is a little over 70psi. Pulls better but still lags and Idle is still perfect. I Think tonight I am going to try the 2.72 disk and ring combo with both springs and see what happens from there. Will let you guys know tomorrow what happens.
