82322, 420As with Turbo and/or nitrous - POST YOUR 1/4 MILE TIMES Posted by cyan, Feb-07-05 06:37 PM
i really can't believe there isn't a running post for this yet, or at least none of the search keywords i looked for picked it up. i'd like to see a post that can be referenced by everyone that lists what times we have all run, with an accompanying list of how much boost or nitrous is being used and what other mods are present. i am curious as to how much my times will change with the addition of the FMIC, built block (this time with 4 intact piston rings instead of 2 or 3) and the 3" DP.
so i guess i'll start it off (keep in mind, my time is the only one i've ever gotten. i used the HKS type-1 US Spec TT quarter mile calculator. before you discredit the accuracy, they are accurate to within .03 seconds and of course the trap speed is whatever your speedo is at when the timer beeps).
15.5 (trap speed not accurate enough for me to list i don't think) at the time i was: HRC Stage 1 @ 5psi CAI (ineffecive) AFX UDP and at least 1 fully decimated piston ring about 200lbs of net added vehicle weight (200 removed, 400 added).
current setup (as of a couple weeks from now) will be: HRC stage II @ 9-10psi (HRC FMIC) 8.6:1 JE Pistons, Eagle rods balanced and Bp'd SPEC stage IV clutch AFX UDP 3" downpipe, no cat, 3" open dump exhaust motor mount inserts 60mm throttle body
my ONLY CONCERN is, with the above mods and a better launch, should i be capable of running a time lower than 14 seconds?

Too bad, that would give you a better idea of what your 1/4 mile time would be.

I did 3 tries in my entire life of having my eclipse. Just did it around NOV of 2004.
2nd time is 15.618sec @ 92.18mph 3rd time is 15.256sec @ 95.33mph
I still don't know how to launch well yet...but oh well. My entire car is 2960lb. after all the dynomat and etc.
I am running 8.5 to 9.5PSI boost with full 2.5" DP to 3" highflow cat to 3.5" cat back exhaust.
So that's my time. Gil

14.1 @ 105 MPH at 15 psi. Had terrible 60ft, no traction, and slipping clutch haha...105 trap is good for at least a low 13, or 13 flat. These cars are hard to launch.

I dont think that it's the cars, my friend has a 98 neon r/t 420a w/ HRC stage II, exaust, and pistons, he ran a 13.9 at 12 psi. I am going out on a limb, but maybe its a drivers malfunction, I have no room to talk though, 17.1 @ 79mph w/ 2.3 60 foot.

82377, RE: 420As with Turbo and/or nitrous - POST YOUR 1/4 MILE TIMES Posted by PiKapp504, Feb-08-05 03:40 PM
MY best was a 14.2 @ 103. I was SUPPOSED to be running 10psi or so, but on this run I popped off 3 vacuum lines, had a SEVERELY slipping clutch (every time I went WOT in 3rd i'd slip) and I was running pig rich (blowing black smoke a LOT out the back). I know that trap speed is good for about mid to low 13's. Now that I've got a good clutch, fixed my vacuum issue, and tuned her a bit leaner, i'm almost 100% sure I can get down to a 13.7 or 13.6. I can't wait for summer time to come back!

i dont agree with whoever said "our cars are slow even with turbos". Shit, i dont consider my car "slow" and i dont even have a turbo. Its not as fast as we would like perhaps, and its not as fast as a ferarri.... but i think some people on this site need to re-evalutate the word "slow".
Now... a 17 second 1/4... lol.. that would probably fall in the slow catagory lol. but i wouldnt consider a 14 second car "slow", im sorry i just wouldnt.

82381, who's got DYNO numbers? Posted by cyan, Feb-08-05 04:31 PM
damn, my time is relatively alot better than i had previously thought. 15.5 with 3 cylinders and 19" wheels isn't to bad at only 5psi and at the time a stock exhaust (2.25 all the way back).
with an equally good launch as i had before, i should easily be in the 13s at 10psi with a full 3" exhaust, motor mounts, new clucth and a bigger tb. we'll see in a couple months.
also, post all your dyno numbers

82425, RE: 420As with Turbo and/or nitrous - POST YOUR 1/4 MILE TIMES Posted by eclipse96rs_n, Feb-09-05 05:47 AM
My best time so far is 13.7@106 with a 2.2 60ft with nitto drag radials, 100 shot, 10.5 pistons, crower stage 2 cams, and many more bolt ons. I think that with some slicks i could easily do low 13s.
|
82426, RE: 420As with Turbo and/or nitrous - POST YOUR 1/4 MILE TIMES Posted by 992gnt, Feb-09-05 05:59 AM
I think my best was like a 13.2@108, with Stage 4+. Shitty launch, no traction (2.1 60' IIRC?). MPH is good for mid 12's with a 1.8 60' time. Ah, the good old days. The Eclipse was still faster than the Evo is, but then again if I dump the same money into the Evo that I did into the Eclipse I'd probably be running low 10's.
|
82436, RE: 420As with Turbo and/or nitrous - POST YOUR 1/4 MILE TIMES Posted by corsagsbo, Feb-09-05 07:19 AM
part of the reason that a thread like this has never manifested is probably because there is always an issue with somebody's run... (loss of traction, missed a gear, the typical could have, should have stuff.) I am by no means a professional, but I personally like to run people and choose not to post my times because it's better when you pull up next to someone with a suposed "fast" car... then dump heaping piles of poo all over them.
But my car is slow, please forget I even responded. :)

everybody's trap times are really quick, 0-105 miles per hour in 14 seconds is a very nice number considering I don't even think my car can go that fast at the moment :D still, nobody's car is as fast as my friend's and he is the one I am trying to beat, he ran a 13.0 @ 126 miles per hour and we are 4000 feet above sea level. but then again that time was also on drag radials from nitto.

haha nope, it was in a car that is (usually) even slower then ours. a MX-3 :D it's not fair, he only boosts 8psi and is making 300whp. his V6 owns our I4s badly. but also, his car has $70,000 invested into it which is rather ridiculous. but I guess the insane speed that car produces comes at a steep cost. and the 1.3g skidpad numbers and hugely fast slalom (70 some mph) are nice too.
|
82474, RE: 420As with Turbo and/or nitrous - POST YOUR 1/4 MILE TIMES Posted by corsagsbo, Feb-10-05 05:37 AM
Those motors at the time produced were nice by design as a small displacement n/a 6cyl, but to trap at 126 he's making alot more than 300hp. Hell I've been 135 in a Viper that makes double that in power although heavier by nearly 300lbs.
Keep in mind at the end of the day it is better to get an 11.22 @119.6 instead of a 13.0 @ 126!!!

x2 although it seems that plenty of the turbo'd cars are capable of much better times, they just need more traction.

Very true guys. Driving certainly plays into it a lot. I guess when i started reading the post, guys were getting 15's and 14's with boost, I got discouraged. I mean, I know our cars are heavy, but I'm glad to know there are good et's (and mph's) to be had.
Thanks, Brian

I'm sorry, I don't get around much. The main players are the slicks. Drag radials + 1WD = good for shit. Get a nice set of M&H racemasters, heat them up, and slip the clutch at 6k and you'll feel just how fun it is to actually launch.
other than that, HRC kit + built motor + 16-17psi. Really, really untuned. Shitty fuel system. We're taking care of the tuning and fuel system this year, so, if everything goes well, I will be in the low 12's. I only got one decent launch. My highest trap run was 13.1 @ 114, shitty launch.

Yeah, look at that bottom of his post. He was kidding around. Although isn't Bill Hahn running 10's?
Jon, thanks for the info. Are you running a Quaife or Phantom?

13.41 @ 107 ON 11 psi and drag radials. I pulled a 2.161 60 ft. The car was untuned and running lean up top. I was using the dfi with 625s. Im switching fuel systems for this season, and hope to show some 11 sec passes on more boost and the bottle.
I went 13.10 @ 114 on my old setup. I pulled a 2.2 60 ft., and was running 12 psi w/ 100shot. Back then I had the s16g w sidemount, dfi, 625s, built shortblock, and drag radials.

The 2gnt needs traction bars and a real lsd. Them inserts work, but not that good, and they eventually blowup along with the transmission.

My best is a lousy 13.5 @ ~106mph, but my best trap speed so far is 110mph. Both of those numbers were from when I was tuning only to my egt gauge, running off the scale rich (~9:1) with the 8inj to avoid the high cyl temps from timing advance under boost. It made something like 360 ft/lbs on the dyno last fall, and that was with this same shitty setup. I'm shooting for ~430 ft/lbs by the start of the season this year.
Edit: Oh yeah, I wasn't launching the car at all, it was all with a nice easy start. After snapping a halfshaft at Norwalk last summer I decided to take it easy until I get DSS halfshafts. And my Spec stage 3 is slipping too, right around 400bhp just like spec rates it. My BFG Drag radials are just too stickey for the stock axles.

-------------------------------------------------------------- That's all I've run on the gs and agree completely. I snapped stage 2 driveshaftshop's using them. I've been hesitant to use my MH slicks, but now that Stage 5's are on order I'll put them to use this Spring.

how hard is the install and how long does it take to install new driveshafts...just curious cause i was considering buying slicks once i get my fuel system done.

13.696@109.76 mph here running 25 psi. That was on street tires with a 2.3 sec 60'. Needless to say, slicks would go a looong way :)

Haven't ran yet, Just installed new .20 over block with JE pistons, Eagle H Beam Rods, Full Exhaust System, New cams and adj. Gears, New ported and polished head, PT lifters and rollers, UDP and custom T25 turbo setup... Any guesses what it should pull on some stock 14" dubs lol?

should be midway into the 200's, but yours is a rare case where the turbo is the weakest link in the chain.

My`most`recent time`is in my sig. no good 1/4 tracks near me. oh yeah, and to the guy who has a 1.5XX 60' time in his sig....what tire/wheel combo, and suspension setup, launch RPM's and LSD are you using? thats a great 60' for a slick equipped RWD...much less a FWD.

seriously though a 1.5 60' is hauling ass... I took my car out to the track today (knowing the owner is a definite plus) and completely stock (just catback exhaust) at high elevation my car ran a whopping 17.7 ... no trap speed though, they don't have that part of the timing system in yet. auto tranny + stock 420A = sucks ass.

Redlight would DEFINITELY explain that 60' then....might wanna mention that if you ever are explaining that run to anyone that is familiar with drag racing...so that they actually believe you. that 1.5xx 60' time kinda JUMPS out at you, especially from a FWD.

Yes, and you can kiss my ass about the red light. It doesn't mean anything, I don't have anythign to explain. For the last fucking time in existence, the timer starts when you leave the light bars, not when the light turns green. The time was valid. I've been doing this for five years now, i'm well aware of how it works. Thanks. :)

83041, RE: 420As with Turbo and/or nitrous - POST YOUR 1/4 MILE TIMES Posted by XtremeRS, Feb-22-05 11:57 AM
I know this was all debated before, and really don't want this to get out of hand again...but this is what I have learned, and had personal experience with track timing systems...just bare with me please :)
I believe there are several timing systems out there..but this one I know about, and have raced at:
When you are staged, both your staged lights are on..good. Now, to get a reaction time, the timer looks for the time it takes from when the light turns green, until your tirs leave the broken laser beems, and the laser eyes see each other. That amount of time is your reation time. This bares NO effect on your 1/4 time, as you can sit at the green all day long, and your timer will NOT start until the beams are connected again(tires leaving the line)
Now, this is the KEY part here:
The 1/4 timer will NOT start UNTIL the green light has activated AND the tires leave the line. So what happens when you leave the line BEFORE the light turns GREEN: You Redlight, and you get NO reaction time. YOu dont get a reaction time because the light hasn't turned green yet, and the timer has not started.
This means that your 1/4 timer will NOT start UNTIL the green light has come on. The timing circuit will not start. If you redlight, your timer will start AS SOON AS the green is on, since your tires are no longer breaking the beams.
If you think about it, your timer prob started maybe inbtween your front and rear tires, or after the rear tires(just depends on how early you left). This means your car is prob aprox 10 feet out the track alreay. YOu basically have a 50 foot time, not a 60 foot time.
All in all, its a damn fast run regardless, at least a 13 flat, or high 12, with a 1.9-2.0 60. Thats just a guestamate though..
A 1.5 60ft is something really damn amazing for a FWD. That kind of launch takes LOTS of great driving skill, and lots of practice, not to mention a very HARD, SHOCKING, instantaneous lauch. If you don't have upgraded axles, then there is no way in hell stock axles would take that kind of launch.
CASE IN POINT: Out at the track in my part of town, a kid had a 16 some second auto 4 banger car. On one of his runs, he redlighted, and his slip showed he ran like a 14..
I still love ya Jon :) Your run was still fast as hell..that's all that should matter. Whip out another 1.5 60ft to shut the rest of us up ok? haha

Im not hating on you in anyway, shape, or form.... but DRAG FWD RACECARS with way more hp and traction dont cut a 60' time like that. if you can do it legitimately in a FWD with just slicks.... i bow to the king of launching.

I've got to agree with Nitrous RS on that. Racer Steve runs 9.80s @145 and pulls 1.58 60 ft times. Bill Hahn in the fastest 2gnt out there only managed a 1.758 60 ft on his 10.87 pass. If u can manage a 1.5 60 ft in your car then you ought to be looking into driving for a professional race team.

I pulled a 14.72 at 96 or 98 (I don't remember) on a <75 shot NX. I say lower because I went with the next smaller pill in the nitrous line because I noticed some small specs on my spark plugs with a magnifying glass. I did some pulls in front of my house to see how the plugs looked. Maybe it was like a 60 shot or something. We had tones of pills from my brothers cars and bikes.
I spun a bearing and burned a ring that night...

Nice times guys. I finished off last year's season running a 13.5 @ 105 mph, but I still ahve some defenite tuning issues to look at this coming year. I'm hoping to get right down in the 13's, and maybe to hit the 12's with my setup, the 100 shot with the slicks on is amazing, got me a 1.92 on the 60 footer :D
