81575, installing an FMU in my 97 eclipse. Posted by 97grnRS, Jan-20-05 03:12 AM
well i have the stock fuel reg. back by the tank. and i was wondering when i install an FMU do i eliminate the stock reg or keep it. and also if i keep it where do i tap into to "wire" up the Fmu? i know the vacuum of course but the inlet and outlet how must i wire these up to work with my 97 RS.

if you are using the FMU you keep the stock fpr (located on the fuel filter) if you are using the SFMU the stock fpr will need to be disabled or removed. af far as where to tap for a vacuum source. any vacuum line will do. but i'm a firm beliver of getting all lines directly tapped to the intake manifold. this way all your instruments will get a good signal and will function properly. ohh and as far as connecting the fuel lines...
Remove Fuel Return Hose from Fuel Pressure regulator and plug into "OUT" barb connection on FMU. Connect hose from other port of FMU to stock Fuel Pressure Regulator.
i believe that is correct.

While your at it, upgrade the lines. Theres 2 write ups depending on where you put the fmu: supply http://www.2gnt.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=58 return http://www.2gnt.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=59
I put mine on the return.

lol those look familiar hehe. but those writeups are for the sfmu, the fmu is a much simpler set-up.

so basically is what ur saying is the inlet on the stock FPR stays on. but from the outlet on the stock FPR that goes to the inlet on the FMU. and the outlet of the fmu goes to the return hose port on the tank correct?

Yes that is correct....8" hose from stock FPR to IN of FMU. OUT of FMU to fuel return port above fuel pump. Run vac line to the front..

ok . thanks. and also. how exactly does an FMU function then ? i mean wouldnt it just be getting the " leftover " fuel from the stock reg? how would it regulate fuel to boost ratio runnin off a return line from the stock press reg?
