so, for those of you who actually remember me, my car is finally done. sort of...it's 7 months to the day that i hydrolocked it. i go to the shop today to pick it up...new motor installed, new clutch installed, however, they lost the stock downpipe that was clamped to the HRC downpipe piece. here's the problem:

1)they didnt reinstall the HRC FPR...i guess they thought it wasnt important because it wasnt in the factory service manual.
2)the exhaust dumps after the HRC downpipe piece. so it's loud.

the result...it idles at 3000rpm. this can't be good for a brand new VT motor thats not broken in yet.
my question is...why is it idling this high? is it because of the exhaust? i cant imagine it would make that much difference. or is it because the FPR is not installed? isnt that FPR just a piggyback to the stock FPR? as i understand it the HRC FPR only affects fuel delivery under boost, so shouldnt the car still idle properly without it? any ideas on what could be causing the idle problem if not the above? can the TPS be adjusted?

im going back wednesday with the instructions for the HRC FPR and HRCs 3" eliminator downpipe which i ordered today. at least the SPEC clutch hasn't exploded yet.

any thoughts?

EDIT: BTW, i picked up the old block when i left...all 4 rods broke! and only one of them actually stayed bolted to the crankshaft. brutal!

prolly vaccumm leaks and the fp is prolly crazy high, or something.

You NEED the hrc fpr or an equivilant like the sfmu from vortech, they both have a rising rate that ref's boost. If you boost without it you will blow that sucker up in about 1 milli second, built block or not.

Sounds like a vacum leak for the idle thing, it should def not be that high. Look for a hose that is leaking.

The vacuum line that used to be connected to your HRC fpr is probably hanging connected to nothing.

The MAP sensor sees the vacuum leak and raises the idle to compensate.

Find the line that's not plugged in, or find the nipple on the back of the intake manifold that's not connected to anything and cap it.

THANKS! there was one port on the intake manifold that was open (the middle port of the triple-port area) where the FPR normally teed off of was wide open.
