well i ran into a gay problem . im making a " junkyard" turbo setup and with the turbo i have and how it mounts to my manifold it just so happens the oil outlet is facing straight up and the inlet is facing down. first of all . could i still run it like this ? would the force of oil from the inlet be enough to push it up and the down again if i just ran a hose off the outlet down? and if not is the inlet and outlet directional only or could i just use the outlet for the inlet?

No.

You can rotate the centersection, though, and both housing all independantly of each other. it's called clocking the turbo. Give it a try.

If its internally gated, you'll have to unbolt the actuator and probably relocate it.

so the oil press wouldnt be great enough to push it up through and back down the outlet.

No, this would be extremely bad for the bearings and you would end up having to rebuild your turbo often.

well i tried to take apart the turbo but the bolts will not budge. even with my strongest wrench.. i dunno. i am stuck with the outlet on top .. . i dunno what i can do now.

Um... turbos aren't usually held together by bolts... usually v-band type clamps and/or snap-rings.

Can you post a pic of your turbo or tell us the model#?

If I remember correctly he's trying to use a turbo of a subie.

ya, well i can get the one half apart but its not the half i need to rotoate. they are lil V type clamps but they are held down by bolts. 1/2" wrench loosens them . but i dunno they are very tight. i bent the wrench trying to get even one loose. so i dunno. im stuck with the outlet facing up.. ill just have to try it.

NO

You WILL damage the bearing catridge. Whatever you need to do to get those bolts free, do it. The turbo cannot be mounted with the oil feed in the bottom.

If you do this, I'd guess your turbo will need to be changed before your first oil change.

what do you mean you used a big wrench??? get some leverage and throw a breaker bar on it. I smash one end of my jack handle so it just fits over my 3/8" ratchet and use that. That way its always near bye.


dislclaimer: if the bolts are that tight, they could snap the heads off but doubtful.

well after much struggle i got it off. . so i "clocked" it right now. should be ok .
