Ok I have my t3 and would like to take it apart for rebuild, before I go and try to unscrew the nuts on the end of the wheels is there any special tool to get these off without damaging the shaft/wheels? I know the cold side wheel nut is a 12pt closed end, but the hot side is some wierd fitting? Also any order of operations to take it apart?

No offense bud but if you need to ask then you should send it in to be done. If you dont plan to rebalence the turbo the wheels must go on exactly the same way they came off. The turbine is not a fitting. It is machined weight that gets removed to balence the turbo.

Yes no plans to rebalence. Just to take it apart, and re-assemble. I just wanted to make sure I don't screw it up.

Lemme guess...You bought your T3 from the same place Motofool got his? Suprise suprise that POS needs a serious rebuild :rolleyes

No i have a 14b on my car, this was just for fun, I bought a T3 from a guy on ebay(i think i paid 75 bucks for it) then got a turbonetics 'p' exhaust wheel, and a turbonetics t4 compressor/wheel (again I only paid like 100$ for all that)and converted that sucker into a t3/t4. Again this was just for fun. Im now polishing up the turbonetics cold side to a nice mirror. I might eventually use it on my car.....it is quite a bit larger than my 14B, at least the cold side is.
On a side note BlueMach5 has a motofool turbo on his car and it is still running quite strong. Only problem he had was the gasket from the turbo to the manifold and that was just cause he was using a composite(organic) gasket instead of a metal one.


edit: I pulled the actual part numbers from the turbonetics sight.
Compressor is #20192
compressor wheel is #20235
got the matching backplate as well.
exhaust wheel is #20279 *i think guy i got from said it was a 'p' trim whatever that means*
these are the only turbonetics parts on the turbo, the rest is from garrett. The garrett part number on the cast is 21f84. It a .48 exhaust housing.

If your piecing together a turbo you really need to balence it, it wont last a month un-balenced. On your side note .48 is way to small for the turbine side. dump it if you plan to run over 8psi.

Like i said above, I might use it, might not, most likely not? *shrug* If I do I'll put some effort into it, but other than that this was just for fun. This is what happens in the winter and im bored.

I just called a place in califonia about the balancing and they only charge 30$. He said to just send the wheels and the shaft. I might just have this done ;). Ok fine I'll send it in.
