80697, Going to HRC on Feb. 4th. Posted by siueclipse, Dec-22-04 04:57 PM
Craig called and wanted to setup some dyno time. I hope all goes well. I will be installing a new 25g when I get there. Wish me luck. Any tips?

oh i get it.. duh.. read that wrong.
well. when i bought the portfueler awhile back bill said i would could a few hours of free dyno time. i need to speak with him again to ensure thats still accurate.

I thought you sold your car on scambay...?
Are you buying the 25G outright or will HRC give us something for our 20G's? Like what they do with the 16G/20G...

i was going to sell the car.. i dont want to part it out.. the car didn't sell so im going to go forward.
you have to buy the 25g seperatly. im sponsored through sport compact, so i will b purchasing the turbo through them for my discount.

You really should talk to etx... he hasn't been impressed with his 25g. Said the upgrade over the 20g wasn't really worth it.
I'd spend the money on a better performing turbo... a Garret GT based turbo... ;)

lol whoa yea that would involve you doing some actual WORK! lmao...you and your HRC bolt-on's :order

80718, RE: Going to HRC on Feb. 4th. Posted by siueclipse, Dec-23-04 06:16 AM
yeha well.. most of this car hasn't been just bolt on, therefore, when i can cut corners why not. if you have the money to buy kits and bolt ons.. why not. just because someone builds their kit, that doesn't make it better, just like if someone buys a kit, it doesn't make it better.
etx, did you upgrade your ic piping? craig called me (because of this post) and said that the ic piping would have to be upgraded, along with the fuel lines, maybe a fuel pump, oil drain line, and a new oil fitting adapter. if you didn't upgarde the ic piping, then maybe thats why you aren't happy with the 25g.
i really have every confidence in hrc. they haven't done me wrong once and craig and bill have given me a lot of useful information when speaking to them. im looking forward to the dyno time, and to talk more with craig and bill. I would like to see Bill give some type of discount on the dyno time like he said he would before I bought the portfuler. Either way, Ill be bringing a roll of cash.
I really think that my car will roll out of there with over 400whp. Id like to see the people who I think are the top dogs when it comes to this motor do some excellent tuning on this car. There is a lot of tuning left to do and a lot of hidden horsepower, not to mention turning up the boost with some race fuel.

How about a Forced Performance 3052 turbo with a little nitrous to make that bastard spool quicker? Oh and add some methanol James if you want to run pump gas and get your 400whp. I've been researching on this and it looks like I will have to go the methanol way, too hot here and too shity of a gas we get here.

well i guess if you LIKE having to wait around until 4500rpm's for a measly 15psi then so be it, lol
just go the extra 10 feet and get a serious turbo for some serious power
|
80721, RE: Going to HRC on Feb. 4th. Posted by TXTurboGS, Dec-23-04 06:40 AM
Thats why I said, add a little nitrous just to get the bastards going. I read some good reviews over at dsmtalk concerning spool up time and whole range of data. If James is going all the way with his car then why not upgrade now and add the whole works. I dont know, who cares anyway, lOL

well, right now because i have a ported and polished head, my 20g doesn't hit full spool till 4500rpm which is why im going twith the larger turbo. my guess is that with a larger turbo the head will fill with air faster so my spool should go down.

80762, RE: Going to HRC on Feb. 4th. Posted by Ducking_Fumbass, Dec-26-04 07:16 AM
Fill... up... with... air... faster?
Are you fucking serious?
Worry about filling in the cylinders. That's what really matters.

If that were the case then why wouldn't everyone just buy larger turbos to reduce lag? Also why would smaller turbos spool faster?

Was it Craigs professional opinion that upping to a 25G would decrease your spool?

It's my professional opinion that James doesn't know how a turbosystem actually works.

I think your head has enough air in it already.

why would u need to change your manifold??? If your going with a Garrett GT series. Think what flange they both use... yes you would need a new DP and maybe a lil fabrication on the upper IC piping.

im curious to see how the 25g performs and the dyno numbers you get out of it with the portfueler.

external wastegate is pretty much a must for that turbo, hahns manifold can be modified really easily though. yes they use the same t3 flange but no internal gate options. a new manifold or a modified hahn manifold is no big deal at all though in my opinion its totally worth it.
|
80742, RE: Going to HRC on Feb. 4th. Posted by totaleklipse97, Dec-23-04 05:41 PM
me and guys not to be named have played around with the fitment of GT series turbo's on the hahn manifold. I know it is a must that a external wastegate be used.. but modifying the manifold for that should not be too hard. As long as the work is quality and you are willing to use some new Uic piping everything should work ok.

You need better rubba. ;)

I made new 2.25" aluminum charge pipes. Eventually I'm going to need to make all new charge pipes and put 2.5" ends on the IC. The 25g has a 2.5" compressor outlet.
Your biggest problem is gonna be the port fueler and controling ignition timing. The 25g at 1 bar is a joke. you gotta get it up to 1.7 bar or so and then it get's going. The thing is almost useless without a good engine management system. I made 361 ft/lbs at about 24-25 psi on the 25g/8INJ in November. That's the most I've made with this car, but kinda null because my AF was below 9:1, the shop was filled with black smoke. Once I get the megasquirt in and tuned we'll see what the 25g is really made of.
|
80760, RE: Going to HRC on Feb. 4th. Posted by siueclipse, Dec-26-04 06:58 AM
well. that might be a problem. your ic piping is too small and not delivering the air that is possible. your setup needed to be tuned also. i bet you would have been close to 400whp if those two things were fixed.
|
80867, RE: Going to HRC on Feb. 4th. Posted by Kirby, Dec-29-04 08:40 AM
James, you're an idiot... A larger turbo will spool slower given the other factors stay the same. The slight reduction in size between the turbo outlet and the IC pipes will not cause any difference in spool time. Remember the spool up is done on the exhaust side of the turbo which in turn spins the compressor wheel. Larger compressor wheel = longer spool up. Now how is airflow after the turbo outlet going to effect spool? The slight reduction in size may cause a flow problem, but I would say that unless you were to the upper limit of the turbo's flow rate this wouldn't be a very big issue.

(Instead you come on here and say, I'm doing THIS aren't I cool guys?)
Which it seams like you used to do...
Now your just like... Ya a bigger turbo will spool faster because it supplies more air to my new P&P cylinder head.

I'm not trying to be a hard ass here james, but come on a bigger turbo getting faster spool??? If that was the case we would all run t-60 series turbos, and that's what Hahn would supply with the kit... Now he may have said that the P&P head will help with spool in general, because if you open up the exhaust ports then you will get better exhaust flow which could translate to faster spool up. Other than that it won't help a bit. Now adding a larger turbo will pretty much negate that gain from the ports when compared to the smaller turbo. So bottom line will the 25g spool faster when you have done the exhaust ports, yes but only when compared to a 25g on a car with stock ports. You want to go fast and we all respect that james, but for a guy with the mods you have, you really have no idea how the stuff you buy and use works. That leads to bad advise provided by you to other members who someday want to be at your power level. Ever hear of the blind leading the blind? That's what we are trying to avoid. I guess the main point I want to make is most people who are going to throw thousands of dollars at their car for performance are going to do their homework and understand the aspects of every mod and how it will work in relation to their other mods. You do not. But you speak as if you do and that pisses off the people with the real knowledge who have to clean up your mess with the "youngins". If the people who have this knowledge would have your budget they could really do some things, but you just piss it away. Not only that but when you make these neiner neiner posts (that's how it comes off even if that is not your intent) and in them you clearly do not know what you are talking about it just adds insult to injury. Anywho bro sorry to bring it to you like that but I guess it's just that I told you on tooners you would need to be different here, but it's the same misinformation from a "wiseman"...

There is a lot of misinformation in here most likely from miscommunication or misunderstanding. Lots of generalalities are being said without thought for all other factors affected. The discussion has degraded where there is no more worth in keeping this thread open. Feb 4th is still a ways away. When you get it done let us know how it goes.
