80050, Wich Garret T3 setup should I get? Posted by titogs95, Dec-04-04 10:06 PM
Wich turbo should I get for my first time setup. I will have stock bottom running 8-10 psi. I am stock up! I will be having all the support mods needed. All I want to know wich setup should I get. I was thinking that GARRET T3 60trim is enough.(.48A/R turbine housing)
So what do you guys think? I know that .63A/R turbine housing is bigger but should I take the risk? Am i going to have a Turbo lag? A big one? Is it worth to the amount of psi used? (8-10psi)
Here is the info page: http://www.turbocalculator.com/sale-turbokits.php & http://www.turbocalculator.com/view-product.php?product=002-002-001
Please serious Imput and people with experience.
TIA Alejandro

well what are your goals, are you gonna stay at 8-10psi, or you're getting built internals and going 15+psi, if you just want faster spool and moderate 8-10psi, then you would want a smaller a/r. the bigger you go, the more lag you get, but it compensates for top end HP and less back pressure. that comes into play when you're going above 20+psi of boost. like for example i chose is a Precision SC34, it's a t3/t4e 57trim 2.230/2.950 wheel size, and Exh hsg is .63 A/R 76 trim wheel. this turbo is rated 545 flywheel hp which is more then enough. when i switched from the turbonetics one i had, talk about a broken neck at full boost. also choosing a turbo requires that you read what kind of turbo would be efficient at a certain psi depending on what type of engine we have. then there's mathematics involved and i really don't want to get into that. but if 8-10psi is your goal, then i would choose a garret turbo similar to a S16G, spools quick and efficient at that psi level. i think this would be just right: http://www.extremepsi.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=17267&cat=508&page=1

Im actually going with a .48 exhaust and a 60 compressor with turbonetics 'v' trim. It should be able to produce about 400 hp. Since I do autox not drag racing Im better off with a quick spooler that will make about 270hp to the wheels. Even that may be too much for autox. This last season I found myself turning the boost down due to wheelspin. And Im only runnig a 14B now.

Yes, My goals are built the turbo on it. And depending on the time and money! I might be able to rebuild the internal and by that time if I have to (I Bet I have to !) I will buy a big and better turbo. But for now! I will put the turbo and later sell it to get an RWD or AWD car! no more FWD!! (But, the eclipse won't get out of my hand easily for a long time! I love it!) Like, I was thinking T3 60 tirm .48A/R turbine housing.
Thanks a lot for your information guys!!! I apreciate it a LOT!
More imputs are Welcome!

have you considered the .52 A/R turbine trim T3? i believe its a standard 50 trim compressor, it was used on the Turbo III turbododges EDIT: i had my turbines mixed up, its a .52A/R compressor w/ a .48A/R turbine, i think that might just be a 50trim, but i dunno

Sounds like you've got thesame turbo as I do... ;)
Isn't it fun? Gotta love the whiplash you get over 15psi :) What ignition system you running? Add a standalone, and you get that turbo to go even crazier with some clever ignition timing :)
