79847, Why is the car shutting off?
Posted by DJ420a, Nov-30-04 02:15 PM
My car started to shut off at idle after I did two things. Maybe you guys with more experience can help me out. Well first thing I did was replace the boost adjustment screw on my SFMU that was missing. The second thing I messed with was my HKS SSQ adjustment on the back, which I found some instructions and it does say something close to, if I back it out to far or something, the car can experience stumbleness or even stall. LAst night when I was finished getting gas I jumped in the car and started it, it ran for like 5 secs and died. I screwed the adjustment in on the BOV and I got the car running fine. Now today it died again. I dont know if it was just a fluke lastnite or what, so thats why Im asking you guys.
Thanx

Any CEL? Did you possibly turn up the idle fuel pressure, thus, causing the car to run too rich? A bad vacuum leak could possibly cause a rough idle or acceleration.:shrug

Thats the thing it runs awesome, even idles great. It gives me no signs of it shutting off, it just does it. You see when I set the pressure on the SFMU, I set it at 50 without vac but then when I hooked up the vac, it dropped to 35. That seems a little low to me. I did a vac test and theres no leaks. What do you think?

that is normal with the SFMU. you need to adjust the vacuum screw. I never got mine above 40psi at full vacuum though.

As for the BOV....i have ran with mine backed all the way out to see how it affected the operation when opening and i never hadany suh stumble.....may have leaked but that was it till i adjusted it.

turn the vac screw to get the pressure as close to 50psi as you can, thats if you are running stock injectors only of course. other that stock you need to have a datalogger to set the pressure to your a/f mix. for our cars the vac pressure should be close to the static. that is what the ECU expects to see.

That is true.

The stock regulator on the 2gnt, is NOT vacuum operated. It is simply set to a static 50psi or there abouts at all times.

The computer takes care of reducing the PW as needed at idle to compensate.

Nevermind, I figured it out. Check my new post about the MSD DIS2.
