79742, Is this an ok turbo kit?
Posted by Aggression, Nov-29-04 06:56 AM
I just saw this on ebay wanted to know if you guys think it would be an ok kit.

Here is the deal I am selling some stuff and I will have about $2000 once I sell everything I have. There is currently nothing done performance wise except a short ram intake. I am only looking to run about 5 to 7 psi. I was going to get thedawgs setup but I didn't have the money in time. I hope to have all the money in about 2 weeks. Just wondering is this kit would be ok for me?

I don't trust anything that doesn't have a picture, or that states "All you need is the fguel system!". The fuel system is the most important part.

The picture io the auction is not what you'll be getting - the head flange is not for a 420A. The downpipe looks like shit anyway, and the manifold is welded and will probably crack.

thanks dino? guess I will just have to wait till another HRC stage 2 setup goes up for sale in about 2 weeks, then I will have the money.

Thanks again bro!

Seriously Dino is right. That kit will be nothing but frustration for you. Another HRC will be for sale, i am sure of it. Just be patient grasshoppa.

yah, thanks guys, I will be patient. Plus it will give me more time to read up more on the turbos. I plan on installing it myself as well. I mean that is all part of the fun of getting one.

thanks again guys!

Thats that same crap that kid was trying to pawn off in the forsale section... even had the same pics as on the ebay ad... nothing but junk. and look at the way the downpipe is welded... can you say no flow?

Wait a minute thestreetsource.net has some got parts if you are going turbo. Go to their website (some stuff is under construction)
www.thestreetsource.net

Don't buy the kit off ebay but contact them
Come on you guys they are selling T3/T4 brand new from garret for $500.

Look at the manifold that they have for us, that thing is a beauty

Why can't I upload a picture on my Post?

I just looked at Street source's website and at their trubo kit packages.

here is one of them:

4-part Neon / Eclipse Turbo Kit
1. T3/T4 STG 3 - 57 trim Trubo
2. Log Style manifold
3. 38mm Wastegate
4. T3 Oil Line Kit

I don't know about you, but I don't buy things from sites where what I need is misspelled. I don't need a Trubo, I need a Turbo!!!

Here is the link to the site section if you don't believe me.

Dunno about you but I wouldn't put money into that at all. First off I think that shit barely constitutes as a kit if at all. You're still stuck building a fuel system from scratch, completely fabing IC piping and fabing a downpipe. Granted they package parts you need but they don't clue in about them at all. OEM turbos? Custom built? Refurbished? What's the manifold look like? Shit, it doesn't even tell you if the damn thing is cast or not (I doubt it though). If you're not willing to chalk up for a REAL kit (i.e. Hahn or Star) then source the stuff yourself, either from here or Ebay, and stick to the stuff that's proven.

Edit: Found pics of their manifold...

Actually doesn't look ½ bad but I'm :wary of the fact that the flange has the turbo sticking straight out. Seems like alot of stress but I'm not one to preach about metal characteristics like it's gospel.

good thing :P

that manifold looks good, i talked extensively to the owner of that company before they even made the manifold and i had a lot of input towards it. one thing i suggested was move the external gate to the left and the flange to the right, so us HRC mitsu turbo guys have a external gate option now, and the gate dumps on the right side and/or easily plumbed back into the downpipe

its a good manifold, its a good "kit" in my honest opinion. yes you'll need to fab a downpipe, HAHA....(like thats hard) and you'll also need to build a fuel system...HAHA (like thats hard)....just get the kit, do your own exhaust work and go megasquirt with a 1:1 and all stainless lines. that setup is 100x better than anything youd get from another company like star or hahn...the "kit" downpipes suck anyway, and so do the fuel systems :shrug

just because its not a full kit, doesnt mean shit...

Yeah, that's cool and all but I think the term "kit" usually refers to the buyer being a novice. I'm glad my first turbo setup was a kit. One purchse, one solution and add on the fact that I was a complete knob when I started installing it. If you know what you're doing then by all means piece together you're own setup and purchase items that suite your taste and plans. Some people don't have the resources or the "gumption" to find/get/make fabed downpipes and IC piping though.
79910, RE: Is this an ok turbo kit?
Posted by turbo8u, Dec-01-04 11:44 AM
simple solution to the intake piping, is get the akimoto spiral flex intake tubing, it works damn good. and a shop can clone the piping once you're done very easily.

the downpipe can be fabbed by any decent exhaust shop, work like that really isnt that hard for them, they do it all day. all it is, is a flange and a few bends and a few mins on the welder

for the money? a hahn kit is BY ALL MEANS, not worth it. 2000+ for a basic manifold/oldschool turbo, shitty downpipe, home depot fittings and a regulator that doesnt regulate? LOL....

us 420a turbo guys have no choice but to go above and beyond what manufacturers on turbo kits call a "kit", we have to make our own shit sometimes to work with it

edit: and 9x out of 10, dsmers are broker than a joke, so 2000+ on a "kit" isnt worth it when you can spend way less and have something better.

You guys out there complain about the fuel system or piping are all lazy folks. Why should I pay HRC for something I can put together for less the price and better quality parts. Going will Star or Hahn limits want you want. If they don't offer it then you are out of luck. Plus I don't think their manifold is made out of cast look at the damn thing, does it look like cast?

I'm not bashing Hahn or Star but I think I can put a better kit together for a better price. The only thing is the hassle of putting it together with some custom fabrication of IC piping and a turbo back.

Not lazy...just better things to focus on.

I personally loved my HRC piping. Have you seen HRC piping? My only suggestion to them is to use an SFMU instead of that Craptech and that's an easy fix.

You're Engrish sucks ass, sir. Buying a pre-made kit hardly limits what you want. I used 95% of what came with my HRC kit and the car ran great and was exactly what I wanted.

Ebay...sell the parts you don't want and get what you want.

What is cast made out of? :wary Cheese? Dog hair? Pants?

You didn't put a price on time and possible frustration.

Ditto.

The point I'm trying to make is that there are 2 paths to turbo'ing these cars. Pre made kit or custom. Both have their merits and downsides. Choice is based on preference. Time for an ibuprofen, reading your post was fucking painful.

gottude manifolds are fuckin pieces of shit. I should know i had two at one point. The first one had shitty cuts in it and was so warped that it was freakin ridulous. I had it decked and then i didn't even think about it being so freakin warped that the bolts holes didn't even line up after that. So i got another one sent to me to replace it and it looked better but not by much. I ended up sellin the kit because i sold the car.

Yes but he's not holding it for anyone. It's still going very cheap to the first person with money in hand.

Okay my English might not be clear to you but you get the F*cking picture. Like the question about cast, you know I was talking about cast iron. Who cares about the HRC piping, so what it is powder coated black, like that can't be done either. Is this 2gnt.com or 2gnt.com 1101 or 1102. A guy can't make a couple of grammar mistakes? Whats next, giving us a grade on our posts to see if we meet the grammar requirements on this site?

So Agression, where do you stand on this issue? If you up for a challenge then go with the custom kit, or if you don't feel like it then buy the full kit, install it, and call it a day.

Well for now I would like for Optikal to come pick up the enclosure so I can buy thedawgs kit before someone else does. I have pm'd him and still no answer. I already too everything out of the car and its ready for him to pick it up.

So that is where I stand now!
