79460, damn oil feed line keeps leaking....
Posted by bokchoi, Nov-18-04 01:41 PM
This is the third oil feed line I bought and again it leaks. The strange thing is that oil leaks out right behind the female fitting (between the fitting and the ss line) and not from the front. I tighten the fittings but it seems to still leak and always from the oil pressure switch side...I never have trouble from the turbo end...do I need a 90 degree fitting or something? Is my oil feed line too short (36 in./ 3 ft)? I'm clueless...don't tell me all the oil lines I buy are bad...I was thinking of changing the line into a -4AN size over the -3AN but I would have to get bigger conversion fittings and stuff.

did you try sealing the fittings with anything? put some jb weld around where its leaking.

No, not sure if that was necessary...but heres the thing though; the straight AN fitting needs to be facing up right (according to star instructions)? well turned the T block so that the AN fitting faces the hood but now its even more difficult to put the feed line on. I was just wondering, was it because since my AN fitting was not facing up (facing passenger side), oil began to leak out? If this is the case I guess I'll just get another 90 degree AN fitting...any suggestions will help, thanks.

im not sure since i dont have the star kit, but i would say try sealing the fittings you already have and see if that stops it, i woudnt go out and buy more fittings unti lyou see if that works, it would be alot cheaper than buying a 90 deg an fitting. just my 2 cents

Don't use JB Weld on it, but you should use Teflon paste to seal them. That's what I used and I've not had any problems with it.

Oh, you don't like altezza's? Too bad, your gonna get a good look at mine.

Please do not follow that advice. Teflon tape is alright, although I know that some AN fitting manufacturers say not to. If you are having issues with it sealing use this:

for sealing. I have used it in the past for pressure sending units, temp. sending units, and all kinds of situations to keep fluids sealed in where they are supposed to be. Cleaner and easier than the tape as well.

Yes the teflon paste will work. Just remember to clean things up good. Don't use JB Weld.

JB weld would not be a good idea in your situation. Just make sure that when you do seal it, that none of the teflon paste has worked its way into the oil passage. You don't want chucks of it going through the turbo center section.

If you over tighten the oil feed line you can easily crack the the female end of the fitting. Take the line off and look at the concave part of the female fitting and look for cracks. Also look at the male side and check for smoothness of the dome section. I have cracked two lines over tightening and also had a burr in the male side both causing oil leaks from the fittings.

I had the same problem, thats the reason my car wasnt running (the first time). But since you said it leaks after the fitting, (exactly where mine leaked) i think there should be a rubber circle thing in the female fitting, forgot what its really called, they use it for plumbing. Not too sure which one to use for automotive purposes though.
