79113, FOUND IT!!! Posted by tim97rs, Nov-09-04 07:22 AM
OMFG!!!!!!!!!! its my boost solenoid for my Profec B spec Shit! started listening closer to locationof tick and sounded like it was coming from close to the fire wall, and the light buld went on! turned it off, )the controller) disconnected it from the wastegate and ran stock hose from comp to WG and presto! no ticking!!!!!!
only questions are why does it do it when cold, but not warm? and is the solenoid going out or is it just a peculiarity of the solenoid?
i'll run it again tonight just to confirm, and them maybe relocate the solenoid to a different location...

I doubt that the temp in the engine bay with a hot engine would vary that much would it? especially twoards the back?
it could be though, maybe the characteristics of the metal parts. Keep us informed man.

Yeah my AVC-R does the same thing. If I was to cruise slowly at about 50% throttle before I hit boost, it would be fine. But once I hit boost (still cruising) I would hear a fast ticking sound. I never bothered to do anything about it because my car always ran fine. Should I fix this noise also? or it doesn't really matter?

The ticking sound is just the solenoid working. Its a valve opening and closing which is how it controlls boost or signal pressure to the waste gate.

yes, that i am aware of, but the issue with it went far beyond the "normal ticking". it was considerably louder (to the point of mimicking valve train noise) and would only go that loud when the outside air was colder at night and in the early AM. it would not do it in the middle of the day when it was warmer, even if it did it that morning or that night!
