I bought a turbo from them before I read all of their bad reviews on here. Here is the e-mail I sent them. You can gather what happened from there. Anybody have any luck with their customer service before?
Hello,
I purchased a turbo from you in auction #2480348748 on Ebay. I finally installed the turbo this past weekend. I am extremely disappointed and need to talk to someone asap about this product. I now have 98 miles on the turbo and it is completely blown. The bearings are so shot I can move the shaft about a 1/4 of an inch in any direction.
I know for a fact this turbo was installed correctly and was started up by holding the fins for 1 minute and there was oil present in the supply line, which was checked.
I was driving and when the turbo started to spool I heard this sound like a siren. I pulled over and popped the hood. I pulled the air filter off and looked inside. There is an area around the housing where I can see that the compressor wheel was rubbing the housing. So I grabbed the shaft and much to my surprise I could wiggle it with no force whatsoever.
I believe it is ridiculous for this to happen to a turbo with only 98 miles on it. I have never seen anything like this. This problem needs to be resolved as soon as possible before I am forced to take further action. I would prefer my money back, but if we could work something out, I am open to suggestions. I ask that you please contact me at #-###-###-#### upon receiving this e-mail so this can be taken care of. I appreciate your time and am looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you, Michael Harris

You shouldn't have a problem with them because you didn't cuss them out in a unprofesional manner You did good man for sorry about your bad luck with them as I have never....never had a problem with them.

Was the item sold to you AS-IS or WITH WARRANTY?
Holding the compressor wheel for one minute is NOT how you pre-lube a turbo. I wouldn't be suprised if you fucked it up that way.
This company has no idea what you've been doing with the turbo for the last 3+ months. You receieved it and was happy with your purchase. But now, months and months later, after somethings gone wrong on your first ever attempt at building a turbo system, you expect them to send you a new turbo. What if you lost oil pressure to the turbo for a minute? Do you know for a FACT that didn't happen? No offense, but I'd tell you tough luck... buy another turbo.

Welcome to SSAutoshaft...
I bought a turno from the, and guess what the piece of shit didn't even last 1 mile. Finally got a replacement, and it lasted a whole 2 weeks.
After that they refused to help me. Said and I quote "Sorry, we don't warrant turbo's that have been installed on the car for 2 weeks."
They are a bunch of fuckwitts...
I was almost ready to drive to NC and beat the fuck out of them with they're crappy turbo.
But instead I rebuilt it myself, and it's rubbing better than ever.
Peace.

It's simple, they wouldn't reply to my emails for a week. At which point I told them I would drive down there and throw the turbo through the window... and I was serious.
The next day they emailed me.. seems they had a lightning storm, which took out they're computer... Faxing them did no good either.
Good luck.
Which turbo was it? WAs it the one I warned you about when you bought it?

MR slick and nosdeclipse any thoughts on the above^^^^^^^^ I'm not defending there turbo as I have never bought one from them but on the other stuff I bought I have had no problems at all.I know there prices our cheap....less than half of what most quality kits cost so why expect a miracal out of a cheap turbo? Then again if installed right there is no reason or excuse in the world it should not work.If that was the case though and all their turbos were junk they would be put out of buisness with the quickness. It would be unbelieveable to think a company could stay in buisness selling 700 dollar parts that did not work at all. nosdeclipse did you buy it from the ebay store? if so you can at least recoup 500 of your money with the free protection that was offered......also when buying something like that you should spend the extra seeing though your saving and get fully protected on a no name turbo for that price.I'm not starting anything with this it's just I don't like seeing a company bashed so hard when you didn't even get a responce from them yet. and just a question before you got your kits how many installs did you both do? Not doubting your abilitys just asking a question that is all.

That is a perfectly acceptable way to pre-lube a turbo. The point of pre-lubing a turbo is to have oil pressure before the bearings are loaded by shaft rotation.
That being said, I prefer to do it the old fashioned way, cranking the car with no fuel or spark with the oil return line in a bucket until oil starts coming out of the return line.

Let car idle for about 60 seconds to assure good oil flow into the turbo. 4.) let go of the comp wheel (carefully) Thats about it... just gotta make sure the turbo gets oil before it spins! Originally posted by The1Bill There are many things that can kill a turbo. Not priming is the first mistake that some people make. If a turbo is not primed, it can die within a few miles. Another big mistake is running a good turbo on a newly rebuilt motor. Newly rebuilt motors have a lot of shavings running around in the oil. Turbos do not like shavings. Low oil pressure is the next common cause of failures. The last common cause is trash going through theturbine wheel or the compressor wheel. This will eff up the blades something fierce. Effed up blades are out of balance and can destroy seals and bearings in the turbo, giving it an early death. Turbochargers are complex, easily killed pieces of equipment, and one can never be too careful in caring for them. -=B-=
Whatever the case may be as I'm no expert, just seems like that way of pre-lubing has destroyed 2 turbos that weren't that top quality to begin with...as mr slick said on most turbos.Maybe thats not enough for the ssautochrome one :shrug

OK, my first turbo I got from them... I lubed it the old fashioned way... cranking over till oil comes out. Then hook up the oil line and the coil pack, and fire her up.
The turbo lasted not even enough time to see boost...
It's simple, the turbo was junk. It had a bent shaft or something believe it or not.
Next turbo, primed with the shaft holding method, lasted 2 weeks. I think they just rebuilt the old turbo... maybe without even changing the bearings... who knows.
I then rebuilt the turbo with a new bearing set, new comp wheel and modified compressor backplate... and it;s been working perfectly since.
All I can say is although the SSAutochrome turbos have good potential, just read theire feedback on ebay, under ANY of their names and you'll see they have a high failure rate.
They suck. I think they don't know how to build turbos.

That's not the point of pre-lubing a turbo! Turbo CHRAs do not even build ANY oil pressure at all. Ever. Even if you were to run the turbo dry for the first 10 seconds until oil starts flowing through it, it'll be just fine.

That is true. A turbo CHRA doesn't build any pressure. But it's good to have oil in it before it spins if you can. There's many ways of doing that. ;)
For most people it's best just to prime the line, by craking the motor with no spark. Then once you get oil to the turbo, hook the spark back up. A simplified explanation. ;)
