78232, Turbo Talon worth it?
Posted by Lowered96, Oct-15-04 12:00 PM
Hey guys.

I'm in Ontario Canada, and it's alot harder to get stuff here for pretty much any car then it is for most of you.

I have a 96 Esi Talon that I've had for 4 years now.
The engine has 15,000kms on it and the car has 93,000kms. Never seen snow either and in excelent shape.

I want to build the engine to handle a turbo.
So far its built on paper with the following.

8.6:1 Pistons
completly do the head (turbo cams, cam gears, port/polish, lifters and lashers, etc) the engine will be $4500cnd in parts alone.
Complete stand alone system and a turbo kit (he didn't say what turbo, but I want to run around 18psi)

Now my question is, can someone give me an idea of what kinda horse power and torque I'd be looking at with this setup?

Thanks guys.
Brian.

Have to make a decision on which turbo before anyone can make any judgement on what sort of power you'd be making at 18psi. That is wholly turbo dependent.

How much "driving season" do you actually get up there?

I bring it out of storage in April and just put it away yesterday, so about 6 months.
I was in Allentown 2 years ago when I worked for Behr paints. All I can say is you guys get WAY colder weather and the snow is pretty much the same.

I don't really drive the car that much as it is, and my dad and I do have a 800hp street car, but I want something to kick my own butt once in a while. And I'm not into the 4G63 to be honest.

Thanks for the help guys.

don't let the weather decide whether you will turbo or not....go for it

Weather has nothing to do with my descion
The car goes to an indoor heated unit for 6 months, then it's back out for the next 6 months in my garage here at the house.
I have a 2003 Civic as my regular car, the Talon is just another toy.

My other question is I'd like to make 400 crank hp.
As I mentioned in my other post, I am fully building my whole engine...everything from built bottom and top end to a stand alone.
I'm looking at almost $20,000cnd to fully build the car...to get that kinda power, what boost and what turbo should I run?

Any help would be great guys

Thanks

go with HRC's stage 2. & portfueler, and all the other goodies to keep your car running....400 "crank" hp is not hard to get dropping 20k

$20k canadian is plenty to make your car run decent even if you pay a shop. If you want power get the S25G, some good cams, nitrous maybe and who knows what fuel management. I'm going with the megasquirt and above 800cc injectors.

go for the 2.4l swap and drop a big ass turbo in there.
