I take issue with some of the information on your site...
"Patent pending?" Did I read that right? Are you really going to patent an equal length tubular header-style exhaust manifold? I think that it has been done. Many times. Very little in an engine is patentable, anymore.
The beauty of an equal length manifold are in the pulse timing. Rather then homogenizing the pressure by dampening it in a log, each pulse will hit the turbine, timed more precisely, so that at 6000RPM, there are 100 pulses hitting the turbine per second. This does a much better job of accelerating a turbine then a constant blob of pressure.
That's why I don't understand your statement "Turbo chargers require high flow exhaust pressure to compress air." Which is it, flow or pressure? High flow implies low pressure. Look into my boy Beroulli for that. Pressure is not created until the flow hits something, like the turbine, or a bend.

Heat containment is good!
As a gas cools, it contracts, lowering pressure, and potential energy. Dissapating heat is bad. It increases underhood temps (probably the source of MANY of the PCM failures in turbo 2GNTS), as well as increasing spool.
Next: The tubular manifold is manufactured with a high quality grade steel and is ceramic coated to maximize heat dissipation.
Again, cut the heat dissipation shit. The ceramic will reduce heat dissipation. That is the point. The cooler the outside of the pipe or manifold feels, the better it is working. This means that the heat that is created in combustion stays in the gas, and maintains more of it's potential energy. Every joule of heat lost through the pipe is a joule of energy that will not be converted to kinetic energy in the turbine housing.
Lastly: The discharge and down pipe systems have been engineered to minimize boost creep and allow exhaust to flow through the turbo charger at a stable rate. This is also a key factor to producing efficient true horsepower.
Boost creep is a function of wastegate size/downpipe size/turbocharger. The bigger the downpipe, the bigger the wastegate needs to be. A really big turbo, like a T70, could probably benefit from a higher downpipe:wastegate flow ratio than a 9B or something stupid small. One size does not fit all, one size fits one.

Can you not read? When the exhaust exits the exhaust ports it is instantly pressurized (back pressure), this manifold provides the correct back pressures while providing equal distribution of the pressure to the turbine. What don’t you get, honestly?

I Agree. I did not type out this section of the page. Its supposed to explain the heat is retained in the manifold, thus keeping the flow of energy, I will have to correct this. This was a typo on our secretary’s part.

This is evidence you have no idea what you're talking about. The exhaust gas is not "instantly pressurized" as it leaves the exhaust ports. What would cause that? The exhaust pressure fairy? The exhaust gas is always pressurized, it is the pressure of combustion that drives the pistons and performs mechanical work.
Pressure really has so little to do with it... Sure, there is a pressure differential between the manifold and the turbo exducer, but it exists because the turbo is THERE.
It's very obvious that someone else designed and produced the manifold, and that you are just trying to parrot what you've read on various websites and what you may have been told by this person or manufacturer. You have no idea
And for what its worth, Honda parts manufacturers have been making manifolds in that "style" for years. That design is nothing new. Good luck trying to get a patent without getting denied on prior art by someone else's patent.

I actually went to our Intellectual Property attorney here at the company. He is in full agreement that your design is not different enough from the other 50 tubular equal length manifolds to patent. Especially whereas the concept has been around for so long. Enjoy your rejected patent application, and don't let the $5K you spent having it written get you down.
Exhaust works in pulses. THAT, my intellectually defecient friend, is why equal length manifolds work well. I could probably design a better manifold based on expected exhaust gas temperature at peak torque, along with the expected average pressure of the gas in the manifold at that same point, but you are not worth the time. I bet you already knew that the pulses travel at the speed of sound, anyways. I bet that you also know that the speed of sound is a factor of pressure, matter content, and temperature, right?
Those pulses are packets of exhaust gas. High pressure packets. Having them hit the inducer spins it better then having a pressure mass on one side of the inducer. It's like pushing something with a hammer instead of just pushing on it. Next time you have a bolt that you just cannot break loose, hold the breaker bar tight, and smack the end with a hammer. I bet it breaks loose. Well, unless you're a fucking pansy. In which case, you will need to hit the breaker bar with a miracle.

No, it doesn't "stay pressurized" because of any exhaust system. It stays pressurized because the leading edge of the pulse is a high pressure wave, but the trailing edge is ambient or even a vacuum. Even with NO header on, the leading edge of the pulse would be high pressure.
Of course it wouldn't run right, but it isn't because of any lack of back pressure - it would be due to the engine not being able to BREATHE properly because the exhaust gas pulse would not be doing its job. The low pressure trailing end of the pulse works to SUCK the high pressure wave of the next pulse along as it travels, and under the correct circumstances, will actually pull more exhaust gas out of the combustion chamber. This is called scavenging, and is a function of any properly designed exhaust system. The exhaust system is just as much a breathing and induction critical section of an internal combustion engine as the intake manifold.
But you wouldn't know any of this. You're just the website guy and secretary. Stop trying to act like you do and let us explain it. We're not laughing with you.

On that cylinder, the back pressure would be so fucked up, in turn- burning the valves. That’s how I understand it. But im just a secretary, as im so informed.

I don't understand where you're going with this. Back pressure has nothing to do with anything. Uh, sure, the example would work, but it wouldn't be remotely efficient. Probably wouldn't hurt any valves.
The reason an equal length manifold works is because the pulses travel equidistant from the head to the collector. it's all in timing the pulses so that the reach the collector in the correct order without slamming into each other, and at some point reach a scavenging harmonic near your peak torque RPM.
The whole point that i've been trying to make is that you don't have a firm grasp on what you're trying to explain, and rather than have you explain it incorrectly, i'd rather have you not explain it at all.

I know this conversation is basically over, but I feel like jumping in on this one... Your first sentence here actually hurts you as much as it helps you. My reasoning behind that statement is that it's a sad, but known fact that the ratio of smart people:dumbasses is not very good. Hopefully over time that will change, but for now, the many people who agree with you, would also probably agree that dipole hydropotonic dual-actuating floater valves are great for turbocharged applications. As for your second line here, others have already explained why that statement is incorrect, so it's not necessary to get into again.

If you had actually taken the time to read what he was saying and think about it for a moment, you wouldn't be laughing... you would instead be taking notes (or, I guess you could have your Secretary take notes for you). The concept is simple... energy that is lost from the engine and consiquently transfered into heat under the hood is wasted kinetic energy. I know Alain was working on some protoype equal length manifolds... mainly he does the "log style" manifolds. The same log style maifolds that work very well for most of us ;)
I can say though that I have personally seen the manifold and setup on "X's" car. While the manifold on his car was a prototype the design looks pretty sound, although mayabe could be a little shorter on the runner length. Because of being a prototype, it's not the prettiest manifold, but I'm sure their production manifolds would look cleaner.
The wastegate and downpipe routing was prety well executed. With a 3 inch exhaust the whole way back.
I myself would like to see a comparison between the EMS manifold, and a conventional log style manifold. My suggestion to EMS would be to aquire a log manifold, and create a downpipe to test it. Either that, or send me one of your equal length manifolds and I will Dyno the difference between my log and your EMS manifold. I've been looking for an excuse to hit the dyno anyway.
So anyway people, try to stay on topic, there's a lot of good info in the thread, but also too much name calling. so please people, keep it civil.

a nice equal length, timed exhasut pulses to a twin scroll t04 style turbo would be awesome :)
ive seen the setup on chris' car many times, been in the car as well as driven the car. it spools very fast, but obviously the turbo size has a lot do with that. its a nice manifold being that it is a prototype and mig welded, a final product being true equal length, tig welded and 316 stainless would be ideal, in my honest opinion.
log manifolds work just fine though
shrug it off chris, dont get all pissed off because dino can surely be a pee pee head sometimes
edit: check ert's website, i wonder if that manifold on the top with a i4 turbo manifold is for the 420a?

isn't that the manifold from turbocalculator.com? I want that kind of manifold but with the compressor face towards the ECU. But then I think the starter will get in the way. But then the other way, I'll have to take out my AC pump, no?

its amazing to see how some of you work to argue a point that will be forgotten since most members wont take the time to understand it. The scavenging effect is a perfect example. Fundamental but none the less it gets ignored so easily.
My .02 on equal length.....you need to buy one from a very well reputable company due to the high risk of cracking from stress. Alain has made a couple prototypes but hasnt quiet perfected it last i talked with him. I also recall him saying he wont make one for anybody...lol. If you have ever seen a factory manifold from a 4g motor you will see it is not quite equal length but each runner is independant as opposed to the Log style.
Bill i think cleared up a lot of good info regarding equal length manifold and why they are more effective. Quite a few things i didnt know. Perhaps Dino can place that info in the Sections part of the site for future reference. This wont be the last time we see this.

Does anyone on this site have a degree in thermo dynamics or fluid dynamics? It would be awesome to talk to someone in this field and see if they would be able to suggest some type of program that simulates the flow of gases through a meidum.
Playing with CAD and anlysis programs is so cool. I have this program at my work called XFDTD that simulates antennas and gives you all of this awesome data like gain, return loss, blah blah blah... There's got to be something out there for fluid dynamics.
Or, maybe I'm posting this on the wrong forum...

We use Ricardo WAVE, a flow bench, and Fluent (with 30 super-nodes) for fluid analysis in the Formula shop.

You should design some concepts for the 420a and see how they work out.. Who knows maybe we can convince someone to build

I've been considering it, take it that alain has stopped making t2 (t25/t28) flanged manifolds. We don't have any manufactures of that type for our cars. The only thing is that designing a good header is very, very time consuming, that's why I'm inclined to just buy one.

he he, I pimped one of the physicists at my work about fluid dynamics stuff about every week. OMG that guy knew so much cool theory about everything from quantum mechanics to AI. I'd tell him "if only you were into cars, we could make something big happen." alas, he drove a 1980 something dodge econo car...
