it makes a tad more sense on the beefy v8's theyre using becuase of the obvious more flow of exhaust, but thats just about it

maybe their engine bays are really crowded? :shrug

in my quest to turbo my v6 carmaro I ran across a kit like that....but they do it for trucks. Truck would have a ton more room to tuck the turbo and intake safely away...plus they are a mile and half higher off the ground than sport compacts. But on the same note...trucks useually have more than enough space under the hood. It never made much sense to me...it seems like a lot more pipe to run IMO. You might get a bit more intercooling effect from such long runs but I don't know if that would be worth it. They showed dyno graphs that "proved" that the turbo placement had little to no effect on performance. Another thing I didn't like much about is that the glowing red turbo would probably be close to the gas tank :shrug I'll see if I can find the link to that company.

By mounting the turbo remote under the vehicle, STS has eliminated the heat problem. A remote mounted turbo runs cooler, with no additional lag and requires no major modifications to your vehicle.

It runs cooler because the exhaust has time to cool. When a gas cools, it contracts. When a gas contracts, the pressure drops, assuming no volume change to it's system. When the pressure before the turbine drops, and the pressure after the turbine stays the same, there is less potential energy. To make it simple, will the water be falling faster at the bottom of a 10 foot waterfall, or at the bottom of a 200 foot waterfall? It is the same priciple.

Turbines work best when there is a large differential of air pressure across it. That setup is fucking stupid.

that's the funniest thing I've read by Corbin.

I have seen this on a older(early 70's) corvette once. Even he agreed that it was not worth the work.

Turbo magizine had an rticle on remote mount rturbo kit a couple of months ago. they seemed to like the idea. they said it dont lag near as much as you would think it would and they are just as effeint as any turbo kit out there for usually less money and less fabricating to make it work.

It is still a stupid fucking "idea."

For emissions testing you allways take a peak at the exhaust system (for the 5 point visual inspect), mainly to spot the cat using mirror on a pole...you gota be prety incompetent not to spot that....


AND WHO THE HELL DID THE COMENT ON PORSCHE TURBO Placement??? hope it was sarcasm right??

Did you know the boxer engine's oil pan is still lower than the turbos, and did you not realize that porsche 911 engines are BEHIND the transaxle?? (no 911 is not mid engined)

Back to this idea......Imagine the kind of loss of power to moove that turbine you have after the gas goes through the Catalitic converter (slows down flow), and thermal disipation?

Or you could pull a Subaru and put a couple of catalytic converters upstream of the turbo...

maybe they can put the turbo in the cabin so the ricers can hear the whirring
