77668, Help! Valve Seals or Bad turbo?

Compression results 205-195-200-195, just changed oil with full synthetic and it was at the max line. No puffy smoke after checking dipstick, nor any signs of leaking coolant at all. Letting the car idle after first start is fine, but when revving in the high rpms and going wot is weird. I drove the car is when driving it wot or high rpms it smokes white smoke(cant tell if there is blue tint) and doesnt stop until letting off for a few minutes.Replaced pcv valve, spark plugs, redid fuel system, cannot figure this out. Got to friends house and checked the dipstick, it was at the low line. I have no leaks around the block and nothing is leaking on the ground. Where is the oil going, it was full and then 5 miles later empty with white smoke all over. Could it be going through the exhaust side of the turbo into the dowpipe? Please help.

This one explains a little better, i am not replying to the other. I dont think it will hurt anybody. I narrowed it down to these problems so i did this thread just for these specific items. Close the thread if you feel it will do harm or take up space.

Well you can do a few simple things if you want to narrow down turbo or not. If its oil remove the IC pipe at the outlet of the compressor and look for oil. do the same at the DP.

When you changed the plugs what did they look like, that will be the first clue as to what direction you need to go in.

I am gonna take the pipes off this afternoon. When i replaced the spark plugs they were black at the tips since i am running rich, nothing else wrong with them. I will check the piping and update later. I am hoping it is the turbo so i can get a new one, i just dont want to spend money on a new turbo and it not be the problem. I just dont understand where my oil went so i have no leak, a full oil pan to about nothing in 10 miles, weird. I appreciate the help and suggestions, thanks.

Well black is not a good sign, you said you are runnign rich....that will contribute, still leaves the question though is it from the rings, valve seals or turbo. What the pipes look like will help. Gettign a look at the back of the valves is a sure sign too but lets face it thats a lot of work and can be determined other ways. With compression being good i would say strong possibility not the rings.

When the car has been sitting for a while and you first start it do you see a small puff od smoke at all? Try that let the car sit for 6 hours and have someone watch the tail pipe when you start it.

I let it sit overnight, i started it up and no puff of smoke at all. I checked ic pipings and they are dry and i cant tell if there is any oil in them to be honest. I revved it up and the white smoke shout out the exhaust and some from around my turbo. After i did that, unbolted the downpipe from my exhaust and smoke came out from the downpipe as if something was burning in the downpipe. It never smokes when sitting at idle, just revving up and driving in high rpms, cruising is fine also with no smoke. I also checked my dipstick before everything and they is no oil left. How the hell could it be full and then not leak at all and be absolutely gone. It had to be burned off somewhere. If my valve seals were bad would it cause it also to lose oil that quick under boost? It would smoke almost all the time if my rings were bad and it doesnt so i am eliminating that possibilty. I checked my turbo, but cant tell anything because the oil would of burned off already on my downpipe, so i am still not sure. Is there any other tests i could try to check my turbo. Thanks

Typical valve seal failure, you will notice at startup a small puff of smoke from the oil seeping past the valve seal and the valve guide. This is not the case so no worries there. The smoke that came out of the DP, what did it smell like? If you didnt smellit then do it agian.

It smelled like oil, i think i found out what maybe causing it. I have to check it tomorrow though. The clamp that holds the compressor to the exhaust side was not tight at all. I may be wrong, but when i took it off today, i noticed it was unscrewed and not clamped well, i started to think about it on my way to work. Oil from the feed line is going through and must be getting into the exhaust side and then down the downpipe causing oil to burn there and not drain back into the oil pan. That is what i am thinking since i am empty now and barely drove it. I will update after i check it out.

if it were coolant you would smell it right away. You have an oil problem and i would say turbo related as you suspect. If anythign rebuild kits are cheap if you are familier with rebuilding a turbo.

Well, the turbo is fine i believe. I have no clue. I am so tired of this car, i tok it to the shop to have them pull the head to find out the problem. Some say piston rings, but compression was good, so i am stuck. I do have smoke coming out of exhaust when i start it but not a puff, it is continous smoke but not alot. It smokes now almost all the time when i drive, more when at higher rpm's. Thank star talon, i appreciate all the help, you really helped me out and i am thankful for the replies. Hopefully it is valve guides or valve seals. I just want to know what the hell is up, i dont care what it is , just the fact that i am lost with the problem pisses me off when i think about it.

Just got a call from the shop. They are telling me my motor is blown, that number 4 cylinder is pumping oil through and that my motor is gone. I did a compression and they were 195-205 all the way across, that is weird. Is that possible or are they just seeing oil and saying that because they didnt pull the motor at all.

Did they pull the head? When you pulled the spark plugs do you remember if cylinder 4 looked worse than the others? How well do you know the shop? You took the turbo off and there are no signs of any oil seepage?
