i have seen people do that with either an electric or manual setup that can be open or closed as needed. that guy "cheesefrog" has an electric setup. which to me would be nicer for everyday driving...

although for those people with a star kit and open wastegate that noise from that thing is nothing new...reminded me so much of my star turbo days...ahh the loudness.

V that is the same concept of the dump tubes used on many old muscle cars. My Superbee has 2.5 pipes with drag mufflers for the street but right after the collector of the header i have dumps on each side for dyno tuning and actual track runs. My superbee would never make it down the street with 3" piping. car is loud enough as it is.

This one looks like it is vacuum controlled which might be pretty nice and cheaper than the electric setups. What solinoid is being used to open and close it though.

I'm doing something like that. 3" from the turbo to an electronic dump, then 2.5" from there back.

obviously that would need to be placed after the 02 sensor. But what doesn't sound right to me is, what about the downstream 02 sensor? That would sit somewhere between the upstream and downstream. Wouldn't that affect the a/f ratio somewhat? This sounds like a great idea and I'm surprised it has never been brought up on this page. I love my stock piping with the 5zigen exhaust. Just adding a 3inch dp and having the exhaust go out through there would mean mucho power without the expensive cost of having a full 3 all the way. This is definitely a cheaper alternative and I don't see anything being lost to it. The acuator on there is actually the same one that HRC uses for the s16g.

But V, the downstream o2 just senses the presence of a cat, right? I think that is what you are refering too. I would love to do this mod, but I would like to put it behind the cat.

I thought I remember seeing a thread that said if the 2nd O2 sensor does not get a reading, performance would be affected. The thread had something to do with HRC saying that their new DP could be disconnected before the cat for the "ultimate DP".

IF there is no need for the second 02 sensor as far as performance, then I say this mod is worth it. But I would like to know more before spending the $$ on it.

This is pretty cool. Anyone know of cheaper alternatives that cost less, but does the same thing in relation to opening out in boost.

I agree Jez. But I think the ones who are doing it are putting it before the cat. With a 3inch dp, it's like open headers on a NA car.

Well, who ever gets it first, get in here and give some feedback. Im gonna try to get one in about 2 weeks. Well see what happens!!

As I said in the other post, this thing is awesome. Of course, you would want it before the catalytic converter... Looks like a butterfly style valve with a wastegate actuator hooked up to it. I'll take one. Too much money though. Someone should buy it and see how well it works.

im already working on a side exit exhasut for 2gnt turbo cars, i have the first prototype and let me tell you, its SICK.

it uses a qtec cutout though, nit a boost activated butterfly. the butterfly can be opened to any % you want at any time, not only open when in boost.

besides, you WANT it open BEFORE boost....for obvious advantages in spool time

i'll keep you guys updated, but let me just tell you...this side exit is fucking insane :thumbsup :cheers

edit: and derek....if the downstream 02 does not see flow, it effects the ECU's timing advance....robbing ponies

When it starts to fuck with timing, then it's time to worry. Josh you're saying the downstream has to be there and functional, but yet if that thing is replaced before the catcon and opens up while in boost, all that exhaust will not make it to the downstream 02 to be read and configured correctly by the ecu. It wouldn't be hard to make one of these. But I want to know that there's no problems with it.
