7737, EGT Guage Posted by Dave16gt, Jul-23-01 05:34 AM
I wanna get an EGT guage before I do anything else and I was wondering what kind some of you guys have and how much they cost. Also did you guys tap into the manifold or the downpipe? Is one place better than the other, Since ive got the hahn kit id rather tap into the manifold instead of the downpipe. Thanks

Manifold, 100% Anywhere else, don't trust your readings.
I have the old autometer gauge/probe combo that they don't sell any more. They went with a sweep style design that actually looks a lot nicer (Shaun has one, it's nice) But last i looked, they were in the $200 range. You can try Westach. Their gauges aren't as "showy" as an autometer, but they're inexpensive and quite accurate from what i hear. There are several guys on the board that use them.

I have an autometer sport comp (bought used) but autometer sells a new street performer series for about $120. the probe is the same as I have except it has a SS strap included (God knows who would use it) to help mount it. Its quick if nothing else but I'd go for something that reads higher than 1600deg like the greddy or Apexi gauges. Not that you want to go beyond 1600deg but if you are you might like to know by how much. 1630deg you might stand on the gas anyway. 1700 you probably wont. I would have no way of knowing.

Westach here. The guage isn't fancy at all, but it does go to beyond 1650 degrees as Stan mentioned as a nice feature.
It's also known for its accurate and quick readings while being cheap. Cost about 70-80 bucks for the probe and guage.
If you're into indigo-type looks and other bonus aethetical features, this one isn't for you.

That ones for a 3cyl geo metro as noted by the 3 channels and only a 1400deg range. If only it looked better, had 4 channels and read higher that shit would be the bomb. Due to the asthetics I rather blow my engine before mounting one but I guess they probably look good and "classic" to somebody.

I guess you could use 2 double EGT gauges and have an EGT for each cylinder.
