Ok this isn't directly related to the eclipse, but I was wondering if someone might be able to help out.

Ok here is the situation, my boy has a R33 Skyline right side drive with the SR20 motor and a full Greddy turbo upgrade. All stock internals and whatnot. He says that when he gets on it and races it sputters like its starving for fuel. So he when and put on the walboro 255 fp and he said after he put it on it worked great, no sputtering and just hammered through each gear and was chirpin them in 3rd. But after like 2 stop lights of getting on it, it just went back to the way it did before the fuel pump was put on.

So he is getting pissed off and goes to the 7-11 to get something to drink...like 3 min in the store right. Comes back out gets in the car starts it up and wants to try it again. So he gets on it and damn if it isn't working like it should again. So same thing gets on it for like 2 stop lights and its working great. Then just acts like it cuts off and stops working totaly after the 2 runs.

WTF is going on?

Anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing it only to work for a short period of time?

He thinks it might be either the fuel filter, plugs, or something to do that when the car starts to heat up or something. Dunno, your help is greatly appreciated.

Where's is the sputtering coming from, the engine bay or exhaust?

Could be too rich obviously (backfiring out the exhaust) from the addition of the walbro, wherein he'll need something to bring down the fuel pressure or scale back the injectors.

Also could be bad wires or plugs. (that will sound more like the popping noise)

The sputting isn't a backfire or pop of any kind...what I mean by sputter is like engine is getting too much air and not enough fuel and the o2 sensor realizes this and can't give the engine anymore fuel due to the fuel pump not being able to deleive enough so it sputters a bit, nothing major.

So this is why he went and got the walboro 255 and installed it and it ran great and took care of the sputter he was getting before. So he thought his theory was correct that the old pump just couldn't keep us with the turbo setup to deliver the correct A/F ratio. The sputter only happens if he is racing or driving it really really hard.

But like I said it only works for like 2 to 3 minutes and after that it just acts like he never switched to the new fuel pump. So why would it work for a short period of time? And also if he lets the car sit for like 2 to 3 minutes it will work again for another 2 to 3 mins and then go back to the normal sputter? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Check the MAF meter. Clean it out or replace it if neccessary. I bet if you unplug it, the engine will run great (cutoff at 3k ofcoarse). Plug it back in and you'll have the same misfire/bog/sputter. It's likely the problem.

could it be his injectors or fpr if its not his MAF Meter?

Sure. It could be anything though. You just need to start with the easiest and most likely parts first. MAF meter is very likely and common with the SR20 egnines.

I wasn't aware that the R33 skyline had an SR20..
I thought they had RB25DET's (at least the GT-R).

Its a 240 coverted over to right side drive and did the R33 Head and tail light coversions.

Sweet. I'd like to see pictures of that.

The R32 has the SR20DET and your thinking of the R34 that has the RB25DET, which is funny because he is building a right side drive R34 with a RB25DET as we speak and will sell the R32 when he finishes it. I might end up buying it.

But he figure out what was wrong...it was loose spark plugs. LOL!!!

I think the r32 through r34 all had the rb25det for the gts-t models. The gtr's came with the rb26dett
