77156, Intercooler TOO big? Overheating?
Posted by Ryan_Hes, Sep-28-04 09:48 PM
Im going to be installing this intercooler on Friday. Im not too worried, but have read a few places of overheating porblems due to the intercooler blocking the radiator.... although never remembering seeing a post about it on 2GNT...

Think I'll be ok?

youll be fine. if i remember right your body kit has a much bigger opening than the stock front.

you might want to wire both of your fans to come on simultaneously though.

nice IC, what are the dimensions? i've got a BIG intercooler that's 13.5"H x 15.5" W x 2.5" D, and i don't overheat at all. mine completely blocks the condensor.

Just make sure you cooling system is up to par. Flush the system and make sure the rad cap is in good working order. As far as mods go to keep cool then run a cooler thermostat and (as mentioned above) wire the fans together.

This one is:

Core Length : 24"
Core Height: 12"
Core Thickness: 3"
Inlet Size: 3" o/d
Outlet Size: 3" o/d
"End to End" Length: 32"

Its heavy as hell though -- it weighs almost 25lbs. Im gussing because it is bar and plate...

Yes, it's too big. Please send it to me for further evaluation.

I have the Greddy Big FMIC and when I first got the car I had no overheating problems, but now that my boost went from 16 to 21, and I am having some radiator problems, I very rarely overheat. If I try to do a 3rd and 4th pull it will overheat to over 230 deg before I get done with 4th. I think I have some bad antifreeze though because I did not completely flush before switching brands.

As far as driving down the interstate at 95 mph...it never, ever, overheats at all, and I don't think a 1/4 mile run would be a problem.

You know idiots like me probably would fall for that since you didn't put in some kind of emoticon explaining your sarcasm.

wow that thing is huge!! and 3" in/out, dude you must be going 500+WHP territory or something. i hope you're getting a bigger turbo as well. you need more volume of air pushing through that thing. try to see if you can match the piping from the in/out for better flow.

Well, I have really big plans - its going to take some time...but come next years shootout...I should be pushing some major numbers running MegaSquirt, high boost, and a larger turbo.

Looks pimp IMO. Shouldn't be a problem with Overheating. If so, then time for more effcient radiator...:P
