76548, don't flame me...heard loud metalic ticking when i got on it this AM

when i got in it this AM early, temps in the 60's, i heard a loud ticking sound that wasent there the last time i drove. it was when i went into boost. i dont really know what "detonation" sounds like compared to "knocking" but this sounded like a very loud lifter type ticking, but i wonder if i would hear this sound if i was running really lean with the cold temps and my EFI.

what does detonation sound like exactly? any ides what could possibly cause this loud of a tick on an otheriwse healthy motor?

not to sure, but explain your ticking a little more, did it tick faster when you went up in RPMs? did it do it when it was cold/idling?

You have a wideband... what was your A/F ratio? How lean were you?

yes, it got faster with with the RPM's, only did it when i floored it, as boost increased. it started roughly around 5psi or so...

i worked a 12 hr night shift and was on my way home to bed, didn't have the wideband hooked up at that time. i shall however do that tomorrow...

Get some oil!
Detonation sounds like rocks in a metal can when shaken. Knocking is more of a hard sounding hit. Hope this helps.

Could be a lifter especially after not having enough oil. Probably nothing major though.
