76300, Cheapest/Best place for a turbo rebuild
Posted by PowerEclipses, Sep-10-04 03:31 AM
I am from PA and the best place I have found was www.turbocity.com for 260 bucks. Metaljim said they do a pretty good job. Anyone else have any info? I need to send my turbo out I think I have a bad exhaust gasket. I was boosting 20 PSI but the boost just stays at 15 and the turbo doesnt spin as freely. I am burning oil but no oil residue on my spark plugs or anything so I think its burning in the exhaust. Im taking it apart tonight to see whats up.

What turbo is it that you have?
If you have a bad exhaust leak then that could cause your boost limit...

The best thing to do is check the compressor wheel side of the turbo for play and also for damage...
Do you have visible blue exhaust smoke?

I'm in PA if you need someone to check the turbo out for you.

Most importantly play of the shaft in and out.

That is important, but most the time the main bearings fail and wear before the thrust bearing does...

And I see he has a GSX in his sig... if he still has the stock T25, then it's no wonder its failing... those things are junk. They're so weak most of them actually SNAP the shaft... haha. Pile of poop.

Some play side to side is okay, it gets filled with oil when running. As long as the shaft isn't bent.

Yes but when you get too much side play you start to rub the compressor wheel... this then makes a smaller comp wheel, thus taking longer to build boost, and sometimes limiting your boost... ;)

Nope its a brand new PTE Turbo T3/T4 50 trim. BTW a turbo can be bad without shaftplay. Shaftplay is just a major way of checking it. It did just start either, the smoke started gradually. Which at first made me think valve seals.

No shit shaftplay isn't the only sign of a bad turbo... ;) So the turbo needs rebuilt or it doesn't? If that isn't confusing...

No haha having shaft play isn't the only sign of a blown turbo. So does anyone know a good place?

I always just build them myself...:shrug

But I have no experience of any of the rebuilders to give you any advice about them... just stay away from SSAutoshite.... :)

Oh, come on, Lee, XS-Shaftplay doesn't build turbos... they throw the fuckers together.

Here at enhanced MotorSports, we use turbo city as our main supplier for turbos. They are good friends of ours, and are local. We pick up new turbo from them on a weekly basis. They do AWSOME work.

You might want to make sure they will do your turbo, last time I asked turbo city about getting a cartridge for a 16G they said that they don't support and "G" model turbos.

We use Precision for our turbos (and rebuilds), and they will inspect a turbo and get a quote. There's no flat fee it all depends on what the damage is.
