Ok, i know HRC says that their turbo kits include all any1 would need for their motor to last a long time...but it just seems too good to be true. Like say I bought a stage 2 kit. my motor has almost 57,000 miles on it. i know a turbo kit is a big investment so i really dont want to have to invest in a new motor shortly after installing the turbo kit.

so my question is this: with my motor having as many miles as it does, what parts outside of the kit itself would i need to buy inorder to have a stage 2 HRC kit along with my motor have a good life span?

Im sure this question is asked quite frequently but the search didnt help much.

I would atleast do a ring job, and maybe valve seals.

I turbo'd at 83,000. 57 is nothing. You don't need to do anything to the motor for moderate amounts of boost no matter what anyone tells you. if you want to see 280+ wheel, sure, by all means put some good pistons and rods in it, but until that point, there's nothing you need to do.

Just do a compression test and make sure you tune it well.

First, make sure you car is completely devoid of body kit parts. Going turbo will make your car so fast they are just going to come flying off your car. Then make me a sandwich.

57 and your worried? lol im just over 100 and im gonna be boosting within the year. im also building the motor tho.

just do a compression test and watch your tuning and you should be ok.

i boosted mine with a 100 on the clock... just do it!!!

We turboed a 2gnt with 184k miles on it, no problem.

The only thing you need to keep your engine from blowing in addition to the HRC kit is larger injectors (30lbish) and a working fuel pressure regulator (SFMU).

how were the compression numbers on that? I'm at 165K now and plan on boosting in a few months. I dunno, maybe I should just go ahead and get a newer block and build it up for when I have all my parts ready to go and not worry about it, just slap in a newly built motor all at once.

Why do people think the compression numbers have anything to do with putting on a turbokit?

I mean if your compression is mismatched between cylinders, you have a nonturbo problem that you should fix anyways.

If you have low compression across all four cylinders, well then you're going to get less power and probably more blowby but its not like its going to fall apart and blow up any sooner.

You're going to crack your stock pistons eventually if you go over 6psi with insufficient fuel anyways. Doesn't matter if you have 10 miles or 200k miles on the pistons, its not going to make the pistons any more brittle, and it wont make your tiny 235cc injectors any smaller.

So yeah, its ALWAYS a good idea to either have a $500 beater car to drive when you blow up your stock motor, or a replacement motor ready to drop in- preferably with forged internals. Just don't loan your beater out to your roommate. ;)

Ok so what I get out of this is to just go ahead and get the piston and injector work done first. Then boost it.

I am planning on boosting mine next year. Just trying to figure out the best route to do it. I have been reading posts and doing searches so I don't ask any stupid questions.

Just debating whether to peice one together slowly or save up for the HRC stage 2.

Here's the thing... you're going to take your factory pistons out eventually. Either they come out cracked in pieces, or undamaged... either way you're taking them out and throwing them away.

So... you can be paranoid and rich and replace them before they break, or be reckless and poor and blow them up, then replace them.

If you just upgrade to 310cc injectors now, you should be fine on the stock pistons for a long time. When the time comes, rebuild.
