75864, Turbo Kit Boost Question Posted by RebelRiderR6, Sep-01-04 04:11 PM
Just today while driving the power steering belt and the other belt snapped. I took it to my mechanic and they informed me it is because I am running boost with a car that was made for it.
Now I am only running 5-6 pounds of boost with my Hahn Stage 2 kit with FMIC. Other mods I have is just a Apexi AFC- II and a Thermal Research exhaust.
Now I know that I need to build up my engine but this car is my daily car and won't be able to do it to either next summer or later. I was wondering if there is anything else I should change now before something else breaks because of having a turbo kit on a non-turbo car.
I was thinking of getting unorthodox cam gears and maybe their pullies also. I want to build it up and get every extra horsepower I can squeeze out. Any suggestions?

thats not the reason it broke, thats a stupid mechanic fix the belts and just check the alignment of the pulleys and it could be a seized tensioner pulley or misaligned pulley setup or just old belts..

ah I see. I guess they were just trying to scare me. Do u recommend me getting new pullies? or is it not worth it and I should get something else to help increase my horsepower without increasing boost?

I are turbo carz with mad housepower y0! Did you get NOS with that? Welcome to the wonderful world of 2GNT's and snapped power steering belts. Live with it, get better belts, install them the right way and make sure the pullies line up. Good Lord I have no idea where you kids get these mechanics. Cracker Jack's R Us? Next time you're there ask him to show you his certs and I bet you'll find it plastered in grade school A+ stars. Good boy Johnny...now stay out of the glue.

I bet he was that kid. You know the kid that I'm talking about. If you don't, then you are that kid.
That kid that licks the windows on the short bus.
Yeah. That's your mechanic.

mine was doing this hardcore between shifts at high boost, when i replaced my pass side and front motor mount with urethanes the motor stopped jerking hard on shifts and the belt has stayed on ever since and not popping off.
either your pulleys were/are out of allignment or like i said, the motor torquing could also throw them off

Yeah like I said, I think he was just trying to scare me. Thats why I thought I would ask you guys. The mechanic who looked at it was young but the manager I know just told me its b/c of normal wear and tear recently.
No, I never had the megasquirt, but my car did have 6 pervious owners before me. I put on the Hahn Kit and I have had the car for 2 years now and the Turbo Kit since March 04. It s alot faster then what it was. I just installed a new BOV last night and it sounds great and no leaking. Now I think I will get new cam gears and hopefully pullyes in the next month or so.
I want to get t 200whp without changing my boost and without anything else major. I am at about 170 whp now at 5-6 pounds boost. Any other ideas?

Have it tuned by a shop that knows wtf they are doing and i'll be you can squeeze an extra 20whp out of it w/ no problem. Having the right af ratio is the key to making power.
