alright a while ago i posted that my check engine light was on and i needed help on how to fix it, because i do have to go do emmisions next summer, so i would like everything to work properly. someone told me to get the actual codes instead of just telling you guys the map sensor is failing and you would be able to help me. well i went down and got the codes, and this is what the girl told me:

p.s. oh yeah just so you know its a 99 gs with a star stage 2 with missing link and stars FCD.

PO401 is EGR, I don't know what the other one is.

dont know what an P0106 is, the P0107 is MAP voltage to low, but ??? on the 106

so how would i fix the EGR problem?

yeah i have never messed the the EGR CEL before so i dont know how to fix it, like a lot of people here. well since your so wise, how do you fix it then, and still be able to pass emissions?

alright well ignore the jackasses for a second.

take off the egr pipe and hose it out with some carb cleaner, you'll probly see a shit load of black carbon deposits come out and after its nice and clean stick it back on.

the code you got was either for the connector or a clogged pipe, so obviously check those. i had this code as well after 148k on my motor, i cleaned the egr pipe and it went away

Todd,

I got your PM and replied the same day. If you didn't get it, then I'm sorry, but John and I only made two of them. He has the first proto on his car right now and he passed emissions with it. We tried the second one and it didn't work. It was a different version we thought might be cheaper to make/sell.

As I said in the PM, there are two codes for the EGR: one for flow and one for function. If you just seal off the port under the solenoid (the hole in the head where the gasses come from) you will get the code for flow. If you unplug the solenoid (and thus prevent the system from flowing without blocking it off), you will get the code for function.

The plates John made sealed the head off, but were ported into the atmosphere on the bottom so that the ECU system would still work and flow. They looked stock, so the car would pass visual. They were still plugged in so they would function. They still had a way to intake some air so they would still flow.

Otherwise, you're just going to have to search to find out what resistor you get and which wire to solder it into to lose the CEL for now. Just don't let the resistor look like you did it yourself and you should be fine. From what I hear, they don't hook up the newer cars to the sniffer here anyways. As long as your ECU reads clean, you should be fine. Oh, and pulling the bulb out of the cluster won't work either. Chill out, take your lumps and post up stuff like this in the Y! group. You'll get far more slack from us locals than you will on here. 2GNT is about to go through a renaissance and things are not going to be fun for people who get pissy. Sorry to say it man.
