75758, megasquirt Posted by xtrickedeclipsex, Aug-31-04 04:11 PM
I was wondering...Hahn ships there ish pre programmed, based on the specs of your car... Why can you not get a mega squirt (or alike), and give them the specs for your car, and have it pre tuned, because a lot of us would have a real hard time tuning a mega squirt by our self’s. Tune it a tad on the rich side to compensate for things.
This may be an n00b question, but I do not see why it can’t be done. The split second controller has the same concepts as the mega squirt...
??? :shrug

A very good question and you are right... I can preset a Megasquirt to run pretty close out of the box...
You just have to factor in the injector size being used and the turbo and away you go.
You would have to do some tuning... but with a wideband it is no big deal... I'd say it's actually easy to tune because it's so simple to add fuel where you need it in the map...

Well, i dont understand why everyone does not do this then?
I mean, if you can preset it, im sure it will run fine out of the box, you will just have some minor things to adjust....
Sounds good to me...Sir - You have an e-mail :thumbsup --------------------------------------- http://forums.kaptainmyke.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=32830 "Oh yea, well...My manifold does cool twisty things" Http://www.EnhancedMotorSports.com ...

because some dumbass will just hook it up and never adjust it cause it says "preprogrammed" and will blow his engine and blah blah blah..

Most of the EIC's on the market are universal. They are used on a thousand different engines in a thousand different ways. The manufacturers could care less about coming up with parameters for a 2GNT turbo conversion car. And there is inherent liability with making a "plug and play" fuel product (morally binding if not legally). There are probably disclamers all over the HRC packaging..."by opening this box you waive all rights to sue us, even if your engine launches its pistons out the hood".

its alot of factors why people dont get standalones out of the box, ready to go. otherwise they would be on every car. you have to know about you car enought to be able to fine tune it, and run within the engine limits.
most standalones (fuel) have a setting where you add the engine size, and injector size. and it will caculate out a base map for you. then you have to edit the pw and shit to get it going. dont run a standalone unless you can program it.

With a Megaview, however, tuning is not a whole lot more complex then playing with an sAFC, except for the lack of potential dire timing-related consequences.

The Megaview does make tuning eaier... anytime you want to tune the thing you can, without needing a laptop...
Oh, and it's really funny the way people assume the MS is hard to tune... it really isn't once you get a hang of the basics... Let's put it this way, on my new motor setup, with new motor, turbo, fuel system and MS... I went with an all new Megasquirt configuration... When setting the MS up I simply guessed at the settings... and what do you know the car fired right up first turn of the key...
Of course it needed fine tuned after that, but the fact that you can get a car to start first time says a lot about it I believe...

If that damned Glen Hoag would send me my shit Id have a MegaSquirt too. I ordered it over a month ago he sent me an e-mail two days ago saying it was just being shipped out, but the confirm # doesn't work. Sorry for venting, it honestly looks like a straight forward setup as far as tuning is concerned, just read the manual and you should be fine. But Grain said, if you don't know how to tune then you don't need it. Good luck all, I'll post if I ever get the damned thing.

Glenn's a good guy... sometimes takes a while for parts from him though. I've ordered from him, his kits are kick ass!
Welcome to the MS world...

If you can't figure it out after reading the manual and going through the forumns then you will either blow your engine or I'm taking you to Vegas cause you're damned lucky. If you can figure it out then go for it, thats all I meant. And as far as Glenn, he is awesome, the kits I got are f@#$ing awesome and in the future I will buy from him, I really feel bad about saying what I said cause if Id have waited a couple hours I would have found it in the mail. Seriously though, if you want an MS kit, buy from him.
