75509, heat soak? heat realted issues Fluxuating A/F.. unknown weirdness...

okay. who knows about heat soak? not with the IC but engine/intake/fuel...?????

as you all know, i have the 034EFI, and have had issues for a few months now with what i beleive to be fuel cut. it is off and on with the only common denoninator being the hotter outside air temp and the increased engine temp after many runs.

with out messing with the 034EFI program AT ALL i can run just fine with no cut, but then if the day is hotter or after numerous runs and the engine is obviously hotter, i sometimes get cut also.

I have noticed that my A/F ratio goes richer when its hotter. how is this possible? i was at 11.3-11.6ish for one set of runs, and without doing a single thing different, on another day, i ran, got cut and was in the 9-10 A/F ranges, and the only change was that it was hotter outside.

i have gone around with Javad about it more than a few times, and although helpful, he still says it has to be something install related, but also after seeing some A/F graphs agrees that there seems to be some heat related issue involved.

Metaljim has been VERY helpful with programing help, so i know its not a programming issue.

any ideas...?

HELP! this is getting old.

Well I don't know what the exact difference was in the air temps, but since cooler air is denser if you tune on a cool day and then run on a hot day your going to run a little richer because the air is not as dence. Now with the numbers your quoting there may be a little more going on also but there will be a change to the tune based on air temps. So how big of a temp swing are we talking about here in the outside temps?

really, not a lot. most of this happens like this: go to school at 7:30 AM, temps in the low to mid 80's with a few uneventful runs onthe way. come out of school at noon with temps in the high 90's and often times i can't even get into boost before fuel cut.

Tim, a hint. See a intake air temp sensor hooked up to the EIC? Didn't think so. It injects whatever amount of fuel regardless of what the intake air temperature is. Colder air is more dense and thus has more oxygen. Warmer air is less dense and has less oxygen. If the car was tuned on a very cold day and then run on a very warm day it will run richer. If the car was tuned on a very warm day and then run on a very cold day it would run leaner.

So, basically it's the same thing Kirby said in the first reply to this thread.

i agree, but it cant make that much of a difference between 80* and 95* for the air to be THAT much less dense, can it? i mean i understand if i tuned on a 40* day and then suddenly had a heat wave of 95*, but only a 15* difference...??????? it cant be richening me up that much...

Log your IAT. That will tell you what you need to know. Also check coolant temps. Datalog both conditions and find out what the difference is.

i looked back on a handfull of logged runs, my temps ranged from high 90's to a high of 140. what kind of temps are we looking at that might make the difference of causing what ive been having? whats a "questionable" temp considered to be?

140s are TOO high if you have a FMIC (if you're at WOT). If you do a WOT run with your IATs at 90* then do one at 140* there is a HUGE difference. It's not ambient air temp that matters ... it's intake air temp.

all right, thank you guys for giving me a new direction to go with this stuff. appreciate the info.

doesnt the eic dump a fixed quantity of fuel, based only on one MAP sensor reading? (above vacuum) .. meaning it wont take air temperature into account...

yes, it uses MAP and RPM to calculate fuel. im pretty sure its the stock ECU thats reading what ever ts reading to cause the cut, thats why i was asking about the temp difference amount needed to cause a high enough rich state to cause the stock ecu to give me fuel cut...
