provided i order a motor from howell (vt's stroker block includes a forged crankshaft), i need to decide whether or not to spend the $700 on the forged 2.2L crank when i order my shortblock. whats the difference in power capabilities between the stock and forged. and what other advantages does the forged one provide?

IMO not worth it seeing as how our stocker is plenty strong enough.
But if you planning on building a motor that will see HP over 500 then go for it.

i doubt it'll be anywhere near 500...i will be happy if i can reach 350.

I wouldnt bother... plus... think about how annoying it'll be to have to wait for a forged crankshaft to warm up in the morning.... CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK for like half an hour

girlfriends water breaks... "hold on to it for 30 minutes my crankshaft has to warm up"

i wasn't aware it required that long to warm up...can't do that, i still drive my car daily.

WTF are you talking about yopu dont need to let your crank warm up.. Forged cranks are just a hell of alot stronger...

isnt it just common sense that any forged part would have the same problems as a piston? clearances are just as tight

NO. Heat is not applied directly to a crank like it is in a piston so the thermal expansion issue is not as severe.

Lots of factory cars come with a forged crank. 4g63's for example.
