Looks pretty good. All 2g's have some type of oil leak, don't they, haha.

that looks so nice ceramic coated......oh cant wait till mine is done. I was debating the idea of a 2 piece DP....i guess that ad settles it.

*Some products listed are legal for sale or use in CA only for racing vehicles which may never be driven on a public highway.

isn't this a daily driver?? :shrug

CA has fucked up emissions laws. Legally, they have to state that it's for racing only.

All I have to say it's a/c freakin' time! Funny though, in the pic, I can't quite visually how it bolts up to the flange on the S16G. I'm sure it does, it just looks so different. I find it hard to believe that it never needs any gaskets, but I'm down with that.

Well fuck, if I can put my A/C back in, I might just buy one. But if I can get a beater for next summer, I'll just make my own. How much are these things?

Get a beater and buy a DP! Beaters rule ... I have a 14 yr old truck that I drive around in, and I love watching all the ricers fly by me on the highway while I'm *trying* to do 60.

i noticed that the other day. very nice. does that come with the kits now or do you have to buy it in addition to a kit?

never mind this question. i emailed hrc and they told me that you have to buy it in addition to the stage 1 and 2 kits as it is meant for the stage 3-5 kits.

My DP is taking up the room where my compressor was. I thought that being ATX would make my spool time really shitty so I made my DP without having a sharp bend like most others I've seen, and thats why I got the fmic that I did and made those pipes for the best flow also. I might be the only one you ever hear complain about spooling to fast. :shrug

I never used my A/c before so I thought it would be better to take it out. I must be getting old man, cause I get fooking hot now.:scratch

One thing about what's written on HRC's site... They say that you can disconnect the lower downpipe section to have the ultimate "race pipe"

This is not reccomended if your injectors and coilpacks are hooked up to the stock ECU, because no exhaust gas will be passing by the rear oxygen sensor. There's mounting evidence that the rear oxygen sensor HAS to have exhaust gas blowing by it at all times (it doesn't matter if there's a catalytic converter or not) for the car to run properly. I don't feel like explaining why, but let's just say that Bill had a really good theory at the Shootout about this.

Now that's just not nice, Matt. :P I'm sure Bill wouldn't mind divulging the information for the good of all 2gNTers. :)

Anyway, Bill and Adam were tuning the RS in preparation for the shootout. It's its full form with a full exhaust. I believe they had it to some number of horsepower. They wanted to remove the exhaust and run open downpipe to get a greater flow and less exhaust resrticiton (at the same time they put in race gas). Obviously when you do this the rear o2 is just hanging out. When they put the car back on dyno it dyno'd 50hp less. Knowing that was a problem they back tracked what had changed from the previous run which included removing all the C16 they had just put in. Still the same problem until the put the exhaust back on and plugged the rear o2 back into the exhaust stream.

The hypothesis goes like this. The rear o2 needs to see exhaust gas PERIOD. If the ECU failes to see the cycling voltage it may or may not throw the cat efficiency code and o2 failure code but it will change the timing somewhat so that the car will not run optimally but instead in some form of limp mode.

Well that is what I took away from lesson (and I say that in the loosest of terms) Bill gave the 2gnters on Friday. If I've remembered anything incorrectly please correct me. I was on my 7th beer by the time we started talking about that. :)

correct. the ecu will react if it sees a failed o2 sensor. that being the front OR the back.

I too can confirm this. That's why I run a rear o2 even without a cat.

My stock ECU has no Front OR Rear o2 signals right now.
But I can tell you the ignition timing is not being effected.
I'll datalog it this weekend...

From what I know it seems like the stock ECU (at least on my 99) keeps the fuel and ignition side of things seperate...
They share sensors but seem to be mostly seperate...

The fuel side of my stock ECU is freaking out... has no injectors or o2 sensors hooked to it. No Evap or EGR stuff either. But it continues to handle the ignition perfectly... and the car sure isn't running slow... ;)

But we should investigate more...

What year is the Hahn RS?

OK, then it has the same ECU as my 99... therefore it should react the same.

Oh, and BTW... the stock ECU ignores the O2 sensors at WOT...
Maybe Bill was losing 50hp at part throttle? ;)

even with the 02 resistor in there? im sorry but i dont believe it. possibility of a limp mode type of thing but i dont have a rear 02 at all and my timing/fuel is right on :shrug

i think after dropping the exhasut he lost hp, not because of the 02 for flow...but i dont know for sure

edit: when he removed the exhasut did he get a cel? that'll pull back wot timing and reduce hp

No it won't.
Theres nothing to say pull timing for any CEL that occurs. That would be stupid.

Something else was going on I suspect.

Perhaps someone would like to run a datalog with and without their rear o2 hooked up...

Answer me this... does HRC have a cat or a test pipe on the RS with the full exhaust?

;)

lol, seriously

wot with the cel DOES pull timing though :shrug. when i was tuning skrillas car with the afc and datalogger, his cel was on for the first rips and when i cleared it he pulled more timing than the previous runs, so i dont know....but im going off what ive seen

Well it would depend on what the CEL was for!
It's very common when setting up an SAFC to get a CEL for the MAP when getting the settings right... now that I could expect to cause problems...lol
But I highly doubt that just any CEL no matter what it's for could cause timing to be pulled... maybe just certain CEL's.

Yeah I seriously doubt that every CEL would cause the ECU to pull timing. But seriously, I've watched my ignition timing change just by removing the rear o2 sensor. It seems to go into a fairly conservative and stable mode... put it back in and it's definetely more aggressive timing and seems to be variable and less controlled..

Can you datalog it so we can see what happens?

Not right now because the intake manifold is off (blew the gasket).

exactly. i think an 02 sensor code might be one of those cel's though....limp mode type of thang. like dougie said though it may go more conservative but i dont know, obviously none of us here do. lol.

It happens. The ECU treats an O2 failure as an O2 failure, regardless of which O2 actually fails. It sees a failed O2 and goes dumb, even if it is just the rear.

so basically if HRC had the resistor for the rear 02....he wouldnt have lost that 50hp when he yanked the exhaust?

edited because of fat fingering

Not necessarily. Most of the time, the stupid resistor trick doesn't work.

My car never gave me a CEL for rear o2 either... and that was after I gutted the cat. ;)
