74980, best way to get 3" exhaust PIPING ONLY Posted by cyan, Aug-09-04 04:49 PM
i'm going to add hahn's new downpipe to my stage 2 order if they have any, and being that my rear bumper "needs" dual mufflers, i am going to have to buy mufflers and piping seperately to build my exhaust. does anyone have a way to get their 3" custom exhausts replicated at the shop that did yours? james, if you can still do yours let me know. otherwise i'll be looking. i don't want to have to buy a greddy evo and chop off the muffler and not use it. BTW, the pipes MUST go OVER the crossmember, my car is too low to go under. so if anyone can get another copy of yours let me know.

a shop down here did mine for $300 without muffler. Im sure they will do the same for you. They can use mine as a mock up. Mine does go over the rear piece.

nice. in the last post i was reading about that you said it was turbo-back...but i'm still assuming that your $300 didn't include a custom 3" downpipe? or did it?

ok, so what would you charge me to get the exhaust copied and ship it to me? in case you're wondering why i don't just get it done at MY local muffler shop is because they dont have a mandrel bender. and when i told them i had a turbo car and needed mandrel bent pipe, their response was "nah, crush bent pipe works just as good."

You need to find a new exhuast shop. :wary I'm getting one fabbed up for Pika at 300 bones, 3" turbo back. Just a matter of finding someone that's willing to take on the task.

Thats funny. My local muffler shop said that to me after i picked up my car and saw that my exhaust was press bent after they told me they would use mandrel bends. Exact quote, "Press bent only flows 5% less than mandrel bent, it's pretty much a waste of money".
Back on topic, i would like to see some pics of this 3 inch setup.

well, tell you what, today ill give them a call and see exactly what they would charge. then ill have to figure out how we can ship it to you. might have to be sent in 2 pieces then youll have a muffler shop just weld the two ends together or something.
my exhaust is mandrel bent, however.. they order the bends, they don't bend them themselves. its still perfect, doesn't hang low or anything.
ill see if i can find some pictures of my exhaust, but i dont think i have any.
you can browse around www.gsturbo.com/james/eclipse and see if there are any in there, but i dont think ive taken pics of the exhaust before.

ok, either way is fine. i will stop by the shop here when i get my car back (months from now apparently) and ask them if they can piece one together if i get the mandrel bends. they should be able to do it that way. which bends did your shop use, do you remember?

Hey Cyan, your only going to need a few bends. If you use the Hahn DP then the only bend before the cross member will be 2 90 degree bends and then you will have to figure out the bends for the cross member which could be a modified 90 or maybe 2 smaller degree bends. Most GOOD exhaust places will be able to figure it out if you bring them the stocker or if they can take a quick look under there...
