LAST EDITED ON 16-Jul-01 AT 00:23 AM (PST)

Ok, ran into a little problem tonight...

I'm driving home from a friend's house, when I left everything was kosher. I get about half way home and went from a 35 to a 55MPH zone. Needless to say a give it a little gun on the throttle, and something was missing...no wooosh noise. So I look at my tach, I'm at about 4000 RPM, and I look at the boost gauge and it's holding steady at 0. So, the rest of the way home I was experimenting, trying to get info... Here's what I've got:

In 2nd gear and above I can build boost pressure, but not until around 5500-6000 RPM, and even then it's very slow to spool. When it does though, after I let off the gas I can hear the BOV, so it's not the BOV.

The fact that I can eventually build and hold boost suggests to me that it isn't a leak in the charge tubes or intercooler.

When I got home I looked under the hood, checked all the visible connections, looked over the vacuum lines, looked at the exhaust manifold, around the EGT probe, and checked the BOV. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

I'm thinking this is some kind of exhaust leak, since I can only build boost at extremely high RPMs.

I'll look it over good tomorrow, until then any help or suggestions of stuff to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Chalk up one more crisis for this week. :\

Check your vacume lines REALLY REALLY good!!! You would hear an exhaust leak. It could also be your intercooler pipes. But if it was that you wouldn't get boost at all. So I would check your vacume lines REALLY good. Good luck.

I would check all piping and connections on the intake side first then make sure your wastegate isn't some how sticking open.

Since I cant use photopoint IMAGINE THIS:

Go to the hardware store and buy a 2" PVC cap and a rubber 2" to 3" reducer. Swing by the autpparts store on your way home and buy a pack of schrader valves (doesn't matter what length). Put it all togetyher, and you've got an intercooler piping pressure tester. Mount the schrader valve in the 2" PVC cap (seal it), mount the cap in the 2" end of the rubber reducer and clamp it down (the reducer comes with 2 hose clamps). Take off your filter and mount the tester on your intake pipe before the turbo. Get a compressor and dump about 15PSI into the piping and listen: you'll hear this hiss of ALL your leaks.

How would I go about checking the Wastegate?

Check all the clamps on the ic piping. and the clamps on the turbo that connect to the ic piping. I was having a similar problem. Mine turned out to be the rubber boot that goes from the turbo to the ic piping.
