I was browsing around for a way to edit my fuel map for my 14b project next week without buying a worthless SAFC which only lets you do minimal tweaking for a high price. Check out this site http://xtronics.com/memory/pktROM.htm I eventually plan on putting a computer below the drivers seat with linux/windows for playing mp3s/movies and internet through other peoples WAPs, anyone know how some sort of connector to connect the ECU to a computer either serial / parallel?

Connect to the 2GNT ECU through a serial or paralell port? Yeah, but you'll have to develop some type of interface that goes through the OBD2 port. Or, you can take apart your ECU and modulate it that way.

Just curious... How much do you know about ECU's, flash memory, and stuff like that?

What kind of fuel system do you have? The SAFC isn't so worthless when you consider that it can allow for much larger injectors than stock. We could probably help get you to where you want to be if you told us what kind of power you are aiming for and what type of fuel system you're using.

First things first... are we talking about a 2gnt here that you want to do this to?

If so then give up on the ROMulator. It doesn't support the EEPROM chip in the 2GNT ECU. Not only that, but no one outside of DC or a few guys in the world know how to change the code in our EEPROM. It's not all that simple...

And in reality you can get a SAFC for about the same price as you'd end up paying for the ROMulator and the other stuff you would need. And the SAFC will do you pretty good... just depends what you want from it. Works wonders for adjusting timing... ;)

I am looking to max out the 14b, i have already ported it out as much as possible. i'm sure a SAFC would take care of the job but thats another piece of equipment on the dash along with turbo timer, gauges yada yada...i quessing the best way to accomplish this task without switching my major back to computer engineer would to get the AEM ECU and just have it hooked up to the computer concurrently for on the fly adjustments...similar to fast and the furious I but actually real. Anyone know how to emulate the ECU through a computer?

I guess you could do some of the ECU functions if you wrote some code and used a Java or a BASIC stamp. It doesn't really sound possible though without building some type of interface, which would end up being more like a Megasquirt or something.

And when Microsoft windows crashes so will your car. Thats why you dont see any software based solutions, just software that makes changes to hardware based ecu's.

If all you have is a 14b then I'd just get an SAFC... and if you dont want it on the dash, hide it!

As for the AEM ecu, I assume your talking about an AEM EMS standalone... if so you "tune" it through a laptop... you dont emulate it! But an AEM setup is expensive... plus no one to my knowledge has one running on a 42oa. And so no base tuning maps exist...
Best bet for what you want to do would be either an SAFC or a Megasquirt.

Oh and if your laptop crashes your engine doesn't stop.. :)

Well i would be surely running linux, stable like a brick wall no BSOD for that...by computer i mean a custom box with motherboard, DVD, wireless LAN, TV out under the driver seat. Would cost under $150 and you can play DOOM III in your car...lol. Looks like SAFC for me good thing i quit smoking.

Show me where you can get all that that can play doom3 at 150 and I will be amazed. My current carputer with touchscreen has run me close to 700 so far for everything i wanted in it and it wont come close to running doom3

I guess you never heard of pricewatch.com, check it out you can buy a motherboard/CPU Athlon XP 2600 for $93 throw in a 10$ power supply and a geforce4 mx 8x agp 128mb for 45$ with shipping it will be right around a buck fifty but who doesn't have a spare computer around the house? One that can run linux/DVD/mp3s is all thats really needed

cant run athlon xp anything in a car. and a 10 dollar power supply? OMG bwahahaha ok no.
1.- no monitor there
2.- no way that proc will survive in a car situation
3.- heat?
4.- heat?
5.- hdd?
6.- how are you going to supply a regulated 12V to that pc? umm not with a 10 dollar powersupply. Try an OPUS 150Watt DC-DC ps. $199 right there.
7.- good luck with your carputer project.
8.- if you want to learn how to do it RIGHT hit me up i can educate you properly.

If you really want to go with a pc in your car then you rgoing to need a DC-DC PS for sure... unles you use an DC-AC Inverter then use your AC-DC power supply... but that's kinda stupid...

Thats what I'm saying. I am using the OPUS DC-DC power supply. It provides the oh-so-necessary 12V main regulation as well as startup/shutdown controllers and it allows the computer to survive the crank in which most automobile systems can dip as low as 9.1 volts. This will kill a normal computer using an unregulated 12V rail. I'm in the process of putting up pics now of my system with the touchscreen molded into the center consolse. Waiting on my http://www.zeitronix.com/Products/zt2/zt2.htm to get here for my wideband! Also running the digimoto logger on it.

yea get a clue...i am asuming people have old computer they can take parts of what they need. About the power yes get that 9.99 PS and then inverter with a 12V cap which hold power for the crank and them subs, now touch screen ya thats great put it will run ya and still won't let you surf the net, try a pocket keyboard and ball mouse. Compile linux and write some code and then you can talk to me...hah

whatever. lol. I surf the intarweb all day on in my car. touchscreen works great. Guess you dont know much about carputers, but thats ok. Check out www.mp3car.com and read up kid.
