74448, Punching out cat question
Posted by 95greenhrcgs, Jul-27-04 08:45 AM
ALright, I have the original cat converter on my 95. I have been turbo for enough years ( 5 ).

I am thinking about punching out the ca before the S.O.

Will it make my car A LOT louder? Raspy? SHITTY sounding?

Dont worry about the check engine light, the bulb has been taken out.

Any ill effects? Any recommendations?

Thanks

You can buy test pipes on ebay for like 23 dollars. They say they are "cats" but my buddy got one for his integra and it was just a hollow pipe.

If you hollow out the cat it will souns liek an expansion chamber on a dirt bike just not as long. I hollowed out the one on my Z28 and you could hear the cat itself a little. Test pipe is the way to go man.

Yeah, i have gotten quite a few emails regarding test pipes, and I could have sworn i emailed everyone back..maybe i missed one. Just been super busy with my car, and for some reason, all my friends want me to work on their cars :) I originally gutted my cat, and with the turbo on there, didnt really notice any significant noise increases. May have changed the tone slightly, but nothing very noticable at all. Same goes for the test pipe. I can get a test pipe made up for ya anytime man..should have time this weekend once i get my cylinder head back on.

When I removed my cat it made the exhaust much louder and raspier...I like it, sounds aggressive - but I plan on getting a resonator installed in the future.
